LollaMac<p>I've had a bit of a run on chunky bangles recently in the shop so I've been making a few more. LollaMac<p>That being said, when you see the amazing things that a group of complete jewellery making novices can achieve, and hear them saying what an amazing time they've had and how they can't quite believe what they've actually done themselves, it all becomes completely worth it. This morning's group was incredible, and it didn't take long before they were sharing their newly learned skills to help each other along. LollaMac<p>I must admit to having a bit of a love/hate relationship with earring making workshops. LollaMac<p>This morning I had the absolute pleasure of spending a few hours with a fabulous group of ladies for an earring making workshop.</p><p>Was it chaos at times? LollaMac<p>Spaces in my upcoming ring making workshops are now very limited, so I've just added in an extra session for the end of August. Other than that, there's only the odd one or two places left on a couple of dates for rings, plus some availability for bangles and earrings. LollaMac<p>It's not just a pretty piece of jewellery they are buying (though it definitely is that too!), it's something that was made with purpose, by a person who pays herself a living wage, pays her taxes, does the best she can for the environment and spends her pennies in the local economy. LollaMac<p>The idea of having a connection with the things you buy really resonated with me. It's why I especially love selling my work directly to my customers. LollaMac<p>These things were made to last, had meaning, were treasured, looked after, repaired when it was needed and then passed down to the next generation. Paul Edwin<p>Second event was Rob Eastaway doing a talk based on his book, Much Ado About Numbers: Shakespeare’s Mathematical Life and Times.</p><p>(By coincidence, I'd heard the related episode of More or Less just a few weeks ago.)</p><p>Right up my street, being a maths nerd and a fan of Shakespeare. Paul Edwin<p>Two Hexham Book Festival events for me today: first was Paul Sinton-Hewitt being interviewed about his book, One Small Step, about how parkrun came in to being and went on to be the global initiative that it is today. What an absolutely humble and considerate man.
