the conservative government of Ontario just introduced the extremely obnoxious Bill 242 today, which will further criminalize unhoused people. it deserves to be 🛑 STOPPED COLD 🛑 because fuck, where are unhoused people supposed to go when there's no housing for them?? certainly none is forthcoming from the province!

Motherfuckers.

The Safer Municipalities Act will, if passed, put protecting the safety of all residents first by helping clear public spaces and end the public use of illegal drugs.

“We have heard loud and clear from the people of Ontario: They want their parks and public spaces to be protected and safe for everyone to enjoy,” said Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “Municipal leaders have asked for more tools and support to end encampments and public illegal drug use, and we will do whatever is necessary to help municipalities get the job done and help those facing addiction and mental health challenges."

Sad to be missing out on this, but bordering on burnout and still getting my body (my Achilles tendons, specifically) back used to marching in summer shoes. We have OH reps on site though, as we ramp up for another summer of state violence.

So it's a Saturday of gardening and recovery for me.

Also, maybe a little prepping for hijinks.
There are always hijinks in the works.

the Conservative Ontario government is going to try to sneak Bill 242 ("Safer [sic] Municipalities Act") through soon, likely sandwiched between other Bills with different foci... Bill 242 is the one that will give various police more powers to surveil harass detain and arrest unhoused people living in encampments and elsewhere merely for the crime of being unhoused. keep your eyes peeled for this upcoming shit 💩 and do whatever you can to stop it 🛑

60,000 Americans to lose their rental assistance and risk eviction unless Congress acts

By JESSE BEDAYN, April 21, 2025

"Moments after Daniris Espinal walked into her new apartment in Brooklyn, she prayed. In ensuing nights, she would awaken and touch the walls for reassurance — finding in them a relief that turned to tears over her morning coffee.

"Those walls were possible through a federal program that pays rent for some 60,000 families and individuals fleeing #homelessness or #DomesticViolence. Espinal was fleeing both.

"But the program, #EmergencyHousingVouchers, is running out of money — and quickly.

"Funding is expected to be used up by the end of next year, according to a letter from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and obtained by The Associated Press. That would leave tens of thousands across the country scrambling to pay their rent.

"It would be among the largest one-time losses of #RentalAssistance in the U.S., analysts say, and the ensuing evictions could churn these people — after several years of rebuilding their lives — back onto the street or back into abusive relationships."

As Māori, we were refugees, and now we are still finding it difficult to connect with the whenua, let alone find a home. We have to do better."

"A tiny mobile home has been removed from a downtown Toronto park after its occupant got an apartment of his own with funding from the city.

The removal comes after the city issued a trespass order to ensure it would not be reoccupied after the man moved out."

And the Tiny Tiny homes guy is OK with this?!

The fact they're doing this METRES AWAY FROM THE LITERAL HOMELESS MEMORIAL is disgusting as shit.

In about 15 mins I have to dip briefly for a protest (there are 2 other LOs here rn), but the residents have approved the callout for more bodies on the ground for the pending clearing that the motherfuckers absolutely confirmed is happening.

Unfriendly reminder that at St Stephen's, the motherfuckers waited us out and didn't do THAT clearing until night.

Apparently, the City needs the park empty to "repair the grass and fix the paving stones".

Fuck everything.

And back in the city in time for... an encampment clearing.

Imagine making $107,000/year ripping down people's meagre shelters and stealing their few belongings. That's the lowest salary among these assholes.

Also, Kyle (in the blue, running away) would like it known that he is "uncomfortable" with people filming him as he lies to encampment residents about the likelihood of being housed, and threatening them.

And yeah, they have the public order unit chilling on standby.
