@lymenzies From my own experience I can tell that even the Original #RaspberryPi and #PiZero can run #RaspberryPiOS all day long and will run circles around the orginal #EeePC701, only getting beaten by the #Vaio #P11Z when it comes to #RAM and #IO options.
Granted a #CM4 or #CM5 with > 2GB RAM will shift the tides but those alone cost more than a used #Wyse3040 and #upcycling a #ThinClient into something like a tiny luggable is propably more budget friendly and useful anyway, espechally since built-in Gigabit #Ethernet and #USB 3.0 really kick ass, so you'd propably be better served doing some #PoE / Wide-Range DC-in & battery setup to make good use of the oversized build volume at hand.
Maybe take some "THICC" 21700 LiFePO4 cells or one of those #LiFePO4 motorcycle batteries for a spin? Pretty shure that you can sqeeze battery runtime measured in DAYS out of it without much tweaking.

I see pi zero on the list. It would be amazing to actually do something useful with these. I have several and they are excruciatingly slow. Hard to believe I used to use Linux on a 386 with 4MB of RAM, but maybe I was more patient then. I'll try building OS1337 when I have a moment.
Juno Observations of Io's Alfvén Wing From 23 Io Radii: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2025GL115497 -> "On 13 June, day 165 of 2024, Juno passed through Io's main #Alfvén wing at a distance of ∼23 #Io radii south of the moon during perijove 62. Evidence for this passage was clearly seen in the #Juno plasma wave, magnetometer, and plasma data. The plasma wave signature was an intensification of quasi-electrostatic waves below about 1 kHz with a weaker magnetic component, all lasting for about two minutes. A strong perturbation of the magnetic field consistent with strong field-aligned currents was observed at the edges of the Alfvén wing. Ions in the range below about 1 keV/q were slowed within the Alfvén wing. As with other measurements in Io's Alfvén wing, we observe evidence of filamentation. The power in the Alfvén wing based on the measured Poynting flux is estimated to be ∼500–1,500 × 109 W."

Io’s Missing Magma Ocean
In the late 1970s, scientists conjectured that Io was likely a volcanic world, heated by tidal forces from Jupiter that squeeze it along its elliptical orbit. Only months later, images from Voyager 1’s flyby confirmed the moon’s volcanism. Magnetometer data from Galileo’s later flyby suggested that tidal heating had created a shallow magma ocean that powered the moon’s volcanic activity. But newly analyzed data from Juno’s flyby shows that Io doesn’t have a magma ocean after all.
The new flyby used radio transmission data to measure any little wobbles that Io caused by tugging Juno off its expected course. The team expected a magma ocean to cause plenty of distortions for the spacecraft, but the effect was much slighter than expected. Their conclusion? Io has no magma ocean lurking under its crust. The results don’t preclude a deeper magma ocean, but at what point do you distinguish a magma ocean from a body’s liquid core?
Instead, scientists are now exploring the possibility that Io’s magma shoots up from much smaller pockets of magma rather than one enormous, shared source. (Image credit: NASA/JPL/USGS; research credit: R. Park et al.; see also Quanta)

Watched a piece on AI companions on CBS Mornings, and it crystallized my guess at Sam Altman and Jony Ive’s goal with their always-around AI device. It can free up your primary device by storing your AI training, personalization, history, etc. in a dedicated optimized device. Inquiries go to the cloud. Device applies context and gives you what you want, how you want it, on your phone, tablet, PC, TV, earbuds, or wherever you want it. #OpenAI #io

OpenAI, firma znana z przełomów w dziedzinie sztucznej inteligencji, ogłosiła przejęcie io, startupu założonego przez legendarnego projektanta Apple, Jony’ego Ive’a. Transakcja o wartości 6,5 miliarda dolarów została zrealizowana w całości w akcjach. Jak podkreśla Jacob Falkencrone, główny strateg inwestycyjny w Saxo Bank, to „odważny krok” łączący potencjał AI z doświadczeniem w projektowaniu, które wcześniej zrewolucjonizowało cyfrowe życie konsumentów.
Celem OpenAI jest stworzenie nowej kategorii urządzeń opartych na sztucznej inteligencji, które mają zadebiutować pod koniec 2026 roku. Nie będą to smartfony ani inteligentne okulary, lecz zupełnie nowy typ sprzętu, który ma na nowo zdefiniować interakcję z technologią.
