I- wha? What exactly powers the recommendations in Jellyfin?
#jellyfin
Trying to remember how Jellyfin works. #jellyfin
Two new releases of @jellyfin for #AndroidTV are currently publishing to the app stores!
I've added support for the upcoming #Jellyfin 10.11 server release to keep playback working (it doesn't in some cases with the current app release).
Read all about it in the changelog of the GitHub releases:

Hoarder's new name change, software updates and launches, a spotlight on #Streamystats -- a Jellyfin statistics-tracking platform, and more in this week's #selfhosted recap!
Trying to replace our old Android based TV interface with a Linux based one.
Anyone know a #JellyFin client that allows for switching users without having to log in to each every time?
The android client allowed us to have a few users logged in and just switch between them.
Figuring out how to passthrough an #AMD iGPU to a #Linux VM on #Proxmox is just..... something not within my capacity atm lol. Maybe someday if I happen to have an additional test hardware I could potentially fuck with without screwing my main environment, and if I manage that then I could update my #homelab wiki on how to do it. For now though, I think I can live without transcoding on #Jellyfin or #ErsatzTV :))
I'm trying to avoid Spotify this month, so I'm currently sat on the Osaka metro listening to my own CDs that I've ripped and are streaming from #Jellyfin on my NAS in Felixstowe using @tailscale
Very geeky, but rather cool all the same.
Enhance your budget smart tv experience:
1. never let it connect to the internet
2. by a lenovo m900 mini computer at least 6th gen intel
3. Install any linux operating system or media os that is free and open source
4. Feel free to pirate any media from companies that are known to change the terms of the sale after the sale
5. Remember folks: if buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing
It's been a while since I last used one of these shiny discs Now let me search for my USB-DVD-drive, so I can rip that archaic optical storage medium and throw it into #jellyfin...
My #Helm chart for a complete home media/streaming stack, Flex has been updated to version 0.2.0
Previously, it supports #Plex as the streaming service, #Bazarr for automated subtitle downloads, #Flaresolverr for bypassing web protections/challenges, #Jackett as proxy server for #torrent trackers, #Overseerr as an interface for requesting media, #qBittorrent as the torrent client, #Radarr for downloading/managing movies, and #Sonarr for downloading/managing TV shows.
Now, to reduce reliance on Plex and lean towards a completely #FOSS stack, I've added in support for #Jellyfin as a drop-in replacement for Plex, #JellyPlex-Watched for syncing watch states between Jellyfin/Plex servers, and #Jellyseerr as a drop-in replacement for Overseerr, which not only works with Plex but also Jellyfin.
I've been using this for over a year at this point and it works perfectly. For me personally, I have everything supported deployed using this on my #Kubernetes cluster except for Jellyfin, Plex, and qBittorrent, which I've deployed as individual VMs instead on #Proxmox cos I find it less resource/bandwidth taxing on my cluster that way - this shouldn't be an issue if your cluster is a lot beefier. During non-peak loads, the (Flex) stack uses up a total of only ~0.19 CPU core and ~1.6GB memory. https://github.com/irfanhakim-as/charts/pull/136
My #Jellyfin and #Plex setup are pretty similar, i.e. on #Debian/#Ubuntu VMs with a mount pointing to my #SMB share from my #NAS, using native installations rather than #Docker, etc. I just noticed though, that there are some of my media folders that I currently have setup using relative symlinks.. for example:
MyMedia -> ../Videos/Media
ls
, it doesn't seem either of them have difficulty or different behaviours following the "trail" from the symlink to the target file or folder.Did you know? One of the best ways to support your favorite artists is still by purchasing their albums. Even if they received 100% of the royalties from streaming, it would take at least 10,000 streams for an artist to earn the same amount as from a single album sale.
When was the last time you listened to anything 10,000 times?

#AprilShowers bring new projects, software updates and launches, a spotlight on #BookLore -- an ebook management and reading platform, and more in this week's #selfhosted recap!
#Jellyfin (media player) on desktop works on #macOS, but not on #Linux #Flatpak on my machine. The app launches just fine, and the server configuration was fine, and the user authentication was fine, but after I start playing a media file... the app just crashes.
Each time I restart the app, it'd ask me to reauthenticate with my user (no longer prompted for server configuration), and again it'll crash if I attempt to play a media file. These logs might/not be relevant as they're already there when running the app, and when it crashes, nothing new appeared.

Oh lol, it's one of those things where people say "so and so" is amazing!!! Works perfectly for me so it must for you... then you realise immediately after giving it a whirl that something as basic as subtitle support on your media, regardless if transcoding or direct play (why that'd even matter, honestly?) is broken on #Jellyfin. I'm eager to switch to Jellyfin bcos I always knew it was the platform to be on, not #Plex (since #FOSS and all), but I am perplexed how Jellyfin supposedly is not able to deliver on this seemingly very basic feature - support subtitles (properly). https://forum.jellyfin.org/t-subtitles-out-of-sync
