I might try using this thingy as the alternative to my broken openSUSE install.</p><p>I gotta admit forcing it to install on a regular "disk" instead of nvme was pretty easy. Just involved removing some nvme0n1 references, the prefix and some nvme commands on the "install script" and it went on its own. </p><p>Gonna add this distro to my ever growing list of Linux distros used ! 😁</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/steam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>steam</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/steamos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>steamos</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/qemu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>qemu</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/kvm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kvm</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linuxgaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxgaming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/proton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>proton</span></a></p>

Droppie [infosec] 🐨:archlinux: :kde: :firefox_nightly: :thunderbird: :vegan:<p>In the wee small hours i decided to give <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/GnomeBoxes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GnomeBoxes</span></a> another chance as a possible alternative. Chose to install via <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/flatpak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>flatpak</span></a>, coz my Host is :archlinux: :kde: :plasma: <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/ArchLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArchLinux</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/KDEPlasma" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KDEPlasma</span></a> &amp; i did not wish to risk possible gnome vs plasma file conflicts. </p><p>It did a fine job of installing an <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/ArchLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArchLinux</span></a> VM [which i completed using the latest <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/ArchInstall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArchInstall</span></a> v3.0.3], so then in an act of gross stupidity i ridiculously chose to see if it could handle a win10 VM via a 3-yr old ISO i have lying around. As i abandoned windoze "for real" in 2014, i had forgotten the many hours of time-wasting bullshit involved, at the end of which instead of getting something decent, you just get... <em>windoze</em>, ugh. </p><p>Anyway, so far it seems that GnomeBoxes is going ok, which makes a nice change as all prior tests of older versions failed to work properly. Doubt though atm that it'll persuade me to give up on <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/qemu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>qemu</span></a> / <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/kvm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kvm</span></a> / <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/libvirt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>libvirt</span></a> / <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/VirtManager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VirtManager</span></a>. GB has no facility to Suspend VMs, so they need to be fully shutdown, which is a drag. Also, the FP version does not support USB transfer, which is a bugger, &amp; so far i've not made <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/SharedFolders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SharedFolders</span></a> work [but think i know why].</p>

Kusalananda<p>I've gotten so used to running my everyday Unix system as a VM on top of various host systems that I notice myself hesitating to install it on bare metal. It feels unsafe. With a VM, I can back up the disk image(es) in various ways (wholesale or incremental snapshots), move it to new hardware, transfer it to a completely different environment and have it up and running in no time. On a bare metal machine, I feel "stuck". Does that make sense to anyone out there? <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/virtualmachine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>virtualmachine</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/vm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vm</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/kvm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kvm</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/unix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unix</span></a></p>

Like is there some sort of usb drive controller that would plug into 2 computers at once? Also I want this drive for my 2 personal computers and not my work computer.</p>

Jan Wildeboer 😷:krulorange:<p>On modern <a href="https://social.wildeboer.net/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a>, a virtual machine using <a href="https://social.wildeboer.net/tags/KVM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KVM</span></a> is more or less just another running process. Which allows you to treat a VM more or less as a container. Which is why we at Red Hat offer Openshift Virtualisation, that puts all of that together. This was kinda mind-blowing for some at the event where I presented yesterday. Seeing VMs as "fat" containers that you can now start planning to convert to real containers :) 1/4</p>
