The US has a #health industry, not #healthcare.

I read things like this (below) and am shocked that this is a thing. #HealthcareReform #HealthcareIsAHumanRight

Hospital supply chain software company Clarium raised $10.5 million in a funding round led by venture capital firm General Catalyst, with backing from the venture arms of #KaiserPermanente, Texas Medical Center, and #Yale New Haven Health.

#Healthcare should not have #VentureCapital arms. (I get the need for research, but this???)

Nurses Say Hospital Adoption Of Half-Cooked ‘AI’ Is Reckless
Hundreds of #nurses protested addition of sloppy #AI into #hospital systems in front of #KaiserPermanente. Their concern: systems incapable of empathy are being integrated into an dysfunctional sector without much thought toward #patient care: "No computer, no AI can replace a human touch," Amy Grewal, registered nurse. "It cannot hold your loved one's hand. You cannot teach a computer how to have empathy."

Another "fuck #KaiserPermanente " rant-

So back in December, we finally took my dad to the optometrist at Costco for a new eyeglasses prescription, where we found out he had a whole bunch of cataracts. He has Kaiser Permanente insurance through my deceased mom's retirement annuity, so all the referrals have to go through them (or we pay tens of thousands out of pocket which we uh, yeah can't afford). They're always super overbooked and it takes months and months even for a regular PCP visit, despite KP costing more than many other insurances (because health insurance in the US is a for-profit industry 🙃 ) When we got the referral, again in December, I had to call around several locations to finally find a place whose soonest CONSULTATION (not even the actual surgery--which takes even longer to schedule) was APRIL. When I told his PCP this when we finally saw him last month, he said I should call around the locations again and try to find a sooner appointment.

Well today I was doing just that...I used KP's "affiliate provider" list to call any location within ten miles of us, my dad gets carsick really easily so even 10 miles is far but we're desperate, and only one actually answered the phone after a long wait time--only to tell me that they would need a referral directly from KP to THEIR office specifically, which doesn't make sense since do we expect KP to call a dozen places to find a location that is even accepting new patients??

So I guess we're stuck with the end-of-April consultation appointment, and pray that the doctors don't get sick or otherwise reschedule us even further out, and that the surgery itself doesn't take months to years to schedule.

It's fucking criminal how expensive and "inconvenient" (ie people regularly dying because they can't see a PCP in time) healthcare is in the US, even though we pay out the taxes (gotta pay for all those Israeli carpet bombs somehow!)

And yet we got all these dumbfuck republicans squealing that "America is the best country in the woooorld!!" and it just once again demonstrates the power of disinformation and tribalism. How much koolaid do you have to guzzle to really believe that?! Not getting shot or "disappeared" for speaking bad about the president is about the ONLY thing the US has going for us compared to countries like Russia and China, and pretty much all the European, Asian, and some south American countries have us beat on that AND healthcare, maternity leave, etc etc etc 🙃
