I am well and truly down the #ErgonomicKeyboard and alternative #KeyboardLayout “rabbit hole”now - touch typing this very slowly on a tweaked variant of the Hands Down Promethium layout which has R on a thumb key (which I started learning on a split keyboard), but directly on my laptop! github.com/peterjc/kana-chordi #JapaneseMacBook

This is the oddest #KeyboardLayout I've seen in quite a while: cnx-software.com/2025/01/20/ba

And yes, the #OrtholinearKeyboard of that small #handheld computer seems to be a #MechanicalKeyboard, they say it has #Kailh Brown switches, seemingly MX compatible.

Moving around the O and especially the P and L key reminds me of the #keyboard layout of the #Enigma, also because I also already was experimenting with such layouts: github.com/xtaran/XTK/blob/mas

If anyone knows how to configure Linux to use 2 or more keyboards connected to one system for multi-tasking in multiple programs at the same time, I would like to know.

Why 2 or more keyboards connected to the same system in use at the same time? BECAUSE MULTI-TASK EFFICIENCY! xD

Are there any modern mechanical keyboards with a numpad that has cursor/navigation layered, but no additional cursor keys? Similar to the original PC/XT layout? I can’t seem to find any, which baffles me, because otherwise keyboard nerds seem to love layering. But either there’s a numpad PLUS redundant additional cursor keys or no numpad. Why not the best of both worlds???

Stupid Apple Keyboard layout! :meowNeutral: I much prefer the Windows one.

So, we don’t want “CTRL”; let’s rename it “command.” Okie-dokey. And let’s have a “control” button also! :blobcatgoogly:

Knock off the “alt” button and have “option” instead! Oh wait, people may get confused. We’ll write both names on the keys for clarity! 😌

And let’s draw confusing icons on each of these keys for easier identification! :akko_shrug:

And while we’re at that, how about knocking off a few important buttons people are used to, like “Home”, “End”, “PageUp”, “PageDown”.

Lastly, do people really need a button for Backspace and another for Delete? We’ll get them to adjust with just one! 😉

Edit: Okay, I was just informed that Apple got there first. Their keyboard layout is older than others’. So, my bad! :) Still, I prefer the other one! :meowGiggle:

Hey, want to maybe help people like me out, so I don't have to keep begging IT to install #Colemak onto each computer I use at work?

change.org/p/microsoft-add-col

Colemak is the third most popular #KeyboardLayout in the world, yet while #Dvorak (2nd) has four options by default in #Windows, Colemak has none and must be added via an installer (and we all know how much IT directors love third-party installers). Colemak has been available for MacOS and Linux by default for years, but #Microsoft still hasn't caught up.

Even if you don't use it, consider helping people like me finally get our favorite keyboard layout added as a first-class citizen in Widows!
