Day 10 cont 💸💰🪙

Opposition Leader “We [the #LNP government] had identified #JoeHockey’s work as #ambassador was crucial in doing this – identifying people who could have an #influence in the decision in and around the administration. That’s exactly what we did. This #PrimeMinister just hasn’t got any of that connection. There’s been no work done in the run-up to what was obviously being announced”

Connections, deals and nods to the 🎃 wont help the country in crisis 🥔.

Day nine cont:

“Andrew CLENNEL: Alright, joining me live is Shadow #HousingMinister #MichaelSukkar. He is in the marginal Labor seat of #McEwen, just taken part in a press conference with #PeterDutton with this new announcement. Michael Sukkar, thanks for your time. You’re proposing to cut the #InternationalStudent intake from 320,000 to 240,000 – isn’t that along the lines of what the government has been trying to achieve anyway? And you blocked their #StudentCap #legislation.”

“Michael SUKKAR: No, Andrew, what we’ve seen under this government is increased #StudentNumbers. They completely botched their attempt at trying to address this issue because they tried to placate all of the #VestedInterests involved. And that means that we’ve seen more than a million #migrants over two years. Our announcement today, Andrew is part of a suite of measures to help Australians battle this #HousingCrisis.”

Day nine cont

“We’ve listened to feedback from right around the country, not just #Canberra based #PublicServants … who are telling us that flexible work is something that they would like to see #enshrined.

Now, *let’s face it, it always was going to be enshrined*. Flexible work was always here to stay. But what our concern now is that part of that #flexible work should also be an ability to work from home where it’s appropriate to do so” Opposition #Finance minister.

Day nine

Not the Opposition leader making apologies for asking Canberra to go back to the Office to work, Not the, “I’m going to “sack the Public servants who do the Education👩‍🏫👨‍🏫 and Health things ⚕️🧑‍⚕️👩‍⚕️” (cite), but this from the Opposition Treasurer. ☢️🛢️

“Well done Angus”.

In an interview with ABC News Breakfast host James Glenday:

TAYLOR “We absolutely not backing down on that, I can assure you, James and we’re not backing down to making sure we drive down prices of electricity.”

GLENDAY asks how exactly the Coalition will pay for it?

TAYLOR “#NuclearPower ☢️ is through to 2050, and it’s substantially lower than the cost of Labor’s policies.”

GLENDAY “It’s hundreds of billions of dollars no matter which way you twist it.”

TAYLOR “Well that’s the #EnergySystem. The energy system much of which is paid for by a combination of the #PrivateSector and #StateGovernments. The piece we will #finance, of course, is the #NuclearGenerators which will deliver a return and that’s how we have modelled it, James.”

Well done Angus, now show me the costings?

With no plan, #Liberal / #LNP make themselves open to critical analysis and thus reverse their decisions when deficiencies are pointed out.

Senator Mehreen Faruqi, deputy leader of the Australian Greens and spokesperson for higher education spoke out against the latest #Dutton #LNP electioneering fluff (you cannot call brainfarts a policy) and managed to shame #Labor ‘s inaction on #SocialHousing for good measure:

“The facts are clear, we’ve seen the evidence: international students are not the cause of skyrocketing rents or unaffordable housing. That responsibility lies squarely with successive governments who have refused to build enough public housing and prioritised lining the pockets of wealthy property investors.”

While I understand that polies tend to want to respond to everything that will get them exposure during the run up to the elections, and that being across ‘everything’ is well nigh impossible for the greater majority of them, they should at least have the nous to shut up instead of making things up. But no… not our loopy #LNP canditates, no Sir, not them wannabe in charge loonies…

#Auspol #Wages

i owe the #ALP an apology — i thought they were completely useless, but <same job same pay> is in principle an important leap forward.

since forever women and other marginalised people have been underpaid, based on the assumption they are less productive. now, employers can no longer use bias about productivity to discriminate in wages. (of course, they can continue to do what they have always done which is to simply not give jobs to women and marginalised people, but same job same pay does remove an excuse for ripping people off if they do have a job)

so… what does #LNP plan to do about it? if the party says they will repeal it but Dutton says he won’t, whom should we trust? If dutton doesn’t back down to party demands, how hard would it be to depose him as leader after the election?

The #lnp and #murdock hate the #abc, alway have, hence the Trumpian promise to cut funding is no surprise. Maybe a rollback of media ownership would be a better path to bring some balance as cutting the ABC is a direct attack on liberal views in Australia.

Dutton is following a long line of #LNP leaders (Howard, Abbott, Morrison) who ditched Canberra to live in Sydney.

“A woman managed to get close to Dutton and unfurl a #banner calling for no new #gas or #nuclear. There’s now been about half a dozen events - mostly hosted by the Coalition - “bird-dogged” by #RisingTide.”
