NedMan 🚀<p>Made a laser crafted sign to go outside the laser room of my local makerspace. Very happy with how it turned out. I did a blog post over on Maker Forums on the make. (see link)</p><p><a href="https://forum.makerforums.info/t/makerspace-laser-room-sign/92959?u=nedman" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">forum.makerforums.info/t/maker</span><span class="invisible">space-laser-room-sign/92959?u=nedman</span></a></p><p><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LaserCutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCutting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LaserCrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCrafting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/MakerSpace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MakerSpace</span></a></p>
NedMan 🚀<p>Turns out, with the clamping plate, I was able to get the number of needed large clamps down to 9. This is much more manageable number. Worked out great. 🥳</p><p><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercutting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercrafting</span></a></p>
NedMan 🚀<p>Decided I needed to make an inverted or negative clamping plate (not sure of the technical term here) to distribute the clamping force to the needed areas while using minimal clamps.<br>So the plate needed a strong back plate and raised areas that correspond to the surfaces that needed clamping. Thought about 3d printing, but decided that would take too long for the number I needed. So laser cutting it is.</p><p>Laser cut the back plate from some 1/4" plywood and the raised clamping areas from 32 pt chip board.</p><p>Used the cut out chip board as a positioning jig clamped to the ply back plate. Glued the cut out areas to the ply with some spray glue.<br><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercutting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercrafting</span></a></p>
NedMan 🚀<p>Thought this might be a one off or an occasional make. Turns out I was wrong, by a lot. 😬🙃😅<br>To make a lot of these plaques I quickly identified my bottle neck was going to be my supply of large spring clamps. Normally the typical plaques I make take 7 of the large clamps. These Cub Scout plaques take 15. 😦 </p><p>So the amount of clamps I needed was going to be a non trivial investment of cash and storage space for said clamps. </p><p>I decided to work smarter, as they say. 😃</p><p><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercutting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercrafting</span></a></p>
NedMan 🚀<p>Here is the finally product. A custom client request for a Cub Scout plaque. It's for an out going pack leader.</p><p>This is what the client told me about the occasion for the plaque:</p><p>"Our current AOL leader is leaving the pack after serving as every role within the pack (chair positions as well as den leader for two dens) over the last decade." <br>(AOL is Arrow of Light)</p><p>Fun design work up and honored to help with the plaque. <br><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercutting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercrafting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/cubscouts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cubscouts</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Scouting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Scouting</span></a></p>
NedMan 🚀<p>Used my palm sander and some 60, 150 and 220 grit sandpaper. To sand off the engravings. One of the large plaques had a vector engraved sea turtle which was the hardest to sand off since the vector engraving was deeper. #<br><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/curbfind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>curbfind</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/curbfinds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>curbfinds</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LaserCrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCrafting</span></a>.</p>
NedMan 🚀<p>On the morning walk I came across this chest on the curb. It’s cedar lined and not really anything I’m interested in for a project. But inside were some black walnut plaques that were clearly laser engraved. Probably a low watt diode laser. </p><p>I think I can sand off the engravings and do my own engravings on them. <br><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/CurbFind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CurbFind</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/CurbFinds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CurbFinds</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LaserCrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCrafting</span></a></p>
Jay Drake 🇨🇦 ≠51<p>Created some personal 'contact cards', and am trying out some different designs for the backs... </p><p>Let me know what you think... (Personally, I am leaning towards etching batches of each anyway (my jig is setup to do 9 cards at a time)... collect all 4...)</p><p><a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Maker</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/LaserCrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCrafting</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/LaserCut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCut</span></a> <br><a href="https://mefi.social/tags/MrRobot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MrRobot</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/FSociety" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FSociety</span></a><br><a href="https://mefi.social/tags/FSM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FSM</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/flyingspaghettimonster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>flyingspaghettimonster</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/pastafarian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pastafarian</span></a></p>
NedMan 🚀<p>Me: Ok, we have everything ready to do the new control panel for the makerspace K40 laser machine. </p><p>ADHD Brain: Ooh, it would be cool if we could make the makerspace Logo glow. </p><p>Me: No, we already have a plan to just do a paint infill on the black engrave acrylic. </p><p>ADHD Brain: Look, we can just can just invert engrave a piece of translucent red acrylic, infill with black paint, do kerf compensated cuts from the red and black acrylic, inlay the red logo into the black sheet and back light with some LEDs. </p><p>Me: No, just stick to the plan. </p><p>ADHD Brain: Ok</p><p>ADHD Brain: It is done. </p><p>Me: What, no, that wasn’t the plan….Oh that does look pretty cool. </p><p>ADHD Brain:😎<br><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercut</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Lasercrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lasercrafting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/ADHD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ADHD</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LEDs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LEDs</span></a></p>

NedMan 🚀<p>Little quick afternoon laser crafting project. Made our dog Ellie a name tag for her harness. </p><p>Vector etched and cut from 1/8” birch ply. Colored with an alcohol maker and sealed with a clear gloss spray. Added Velcro backing to attach to the harness. <br><a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LaserCrafting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCrafting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/LaserCutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCutting</span></a> <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/dogsofmastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dogsofmastodon</span></a></p>
