This print “Occam’s Razor” is about the Law of Economy or Parsimony postulated by Scholastic philosopher William of Ockham (1287–1347), “pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate” or entities should not be needlessly multiplied. More simply this law, or really, rule of thumb is that the simplest explanation is usually right. The print shows Ockham himself, inspired by an image of him from a

Happy birthday to Canadian 
geneticist Irene Ayako Uchida (1917-2013)! In my #linocut Uchida is shown surrounded by chromosones, with anomalies (shown with pink arrows) due to radiation exposure, based on one of her research papers. A strand of DNA is hidden in the image (as her watchband).
Uchida didn’t set out to be a scientist. She was studying English literature at UBC, before she was interned 1/n

My beaver lino block print is hand printed on delicate, translucent, handmade Japanese paper with a deckle edge. This is a North American beaver (Castor canadensis), symbol of Canada.
April 7 is International Beaver Day. While a species of “least concern” according to the IUCN Red List of mammals, numbers of North American beavers have been literally decimated since colonization. 1/2

A few new things in term of processes:
* I'm trying a new ink
* I ditched my little plastic inking tray for a large white tile: larger surface, no rim and very easy to clean.
* I've used this transfer technique: https://mastodon.social/@rayan_forestgreen/114042749566099092 for the first time (thank you @rayan_forestgreen for the advice!)
It was done on soft cut, I think I prefer harder surfaces.

Working on a new print about the future of pollination featuring wild native bees for Manufactured Ecosystems.
The future of pollination is a huge global concept to tackle artistically. There are issues worldwide, but they’re all local: specific species, stresses on ecosystems & remedies. You can proscribe a general policy like ‘restore habitat’ but you have to be clear that the best plants to help pollinators are those that evolved in a given place.

Working away at this and wondering how much light I may yet want to let in and at the same time resisting the temptation to eat away at some of the small leaves before I make a first proof and am then able to properly see what I have. In lino, once it’s gone, it’s gone.
