aaron<p>I just found that the latest <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/linuxMint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxMint</span></a> installer is <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/accessible" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>accessible</span></a> with <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/orca" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>orca</span></a>. I was using the <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/MATE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MATE</span></a> spin. Someone at the Mint team clearly checked this; love to see it. Please don't break it.</p>

mutteripannu<p>Can I ask a stupid Linux question… Please bear with me… I’m using Mint (Also tried Ubuntu before) so I don’t know if it’s the same with every distro… but why is every setting and every little functionality it’s own ”app”? Why aren’t these ”compiled” into larger, coherent wholes? For someone whose first instinct when setting up a new computer is to delete every unnecessary thing, I feel a bit triggered by all these myriad little apps that do one thing. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/LinuxMint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxMint</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Noob" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Noob</span></a></p>

www.linuxmint.comDonors - Linux MintLinux Mint is an elegant, easy to use, up to date and comfortable desktop operating system.

@wgarmil @itsfoss I'm new to Linux myself and just installed Linux Mint in February and then again in March on the second computer and it's been flawless. Honestly, I made my choice pretty quickly based upon seeing Mint recommended fairly often for folks that were just starting out. Which is to say, I didn't overthink it, and I'm really happy with the choice.

PSA: In case you run #Ubuntu 24.10 with #ZFS on Root, DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE YET! You are very likely to run into a #Linux kernel deadlock mid-flight during the upgrade which leaves you with a broken system.

Also: Use zfs snapshot before trying to upgrade. zfs-auto-snapshot to the rescue! #openzfs #linuxmint

I've been #LinuxCurious for a long time. Meta banning talk of it really got my attention. That plus all of the Fedi chatter from Linux nerds [he typed with admiration] and Microsoft finding new ways to suck really solidified my intent to experiment.

Well. Mint has been my mostly daily driver for a week. It hasn't been perfect. But better than expected. The one HUGE annoyance was self-inflicted (gah!) can't fault it for that.

I am not out of the woods yet, still a few more things to test out, but so far all of my use cases have been met. Yay!

I made a thing:
forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic
It is a guide to setting up a drag lock on a three button mouse in Linux Mint. V useful if you have limited or no movement in your fingers.

I would appreciate feedback as it is my first attempt at writing a tutorial. I also think that I have made some technical errors.

I also want a pat on the head, but maybe that is obvious

More on the upgrade to my Dell laptop saga...
Apparently, many Dell boxes don't natively load NVME drivers in their bios. Found much documentation about this around Dell servers. No researching methodologies for alternative bootloaders that will load a GPT enabled NVME partition.
Wondering if there are Dell bios additions for loading #linux that are not third party hacks.
