One thing Apple didn't announce yesterday was fixing the absolutely flaky implementation of messgae syncing across devices and supporting MMS as well as iMessage.

This was working for me until 3 days ago and is now well borked.

I am looking for a FOSS alternative to Google Messages.

The main feature I want to keep is "device pairing:" I should be able to link it to my computer and type out messages with a physical keyboard. This is important because I don't want to write a long message on my phone, and some people I communicate with are unable to use another messaging system that works on desktops out-of-the-box.

I've tried several SMS apps on F-Droid, but none of them seem to have this feature.

I do
not need all the advanced features of RCS, nor do I need E2EE (because most of the people I use Google Messages to talk to are on iPhones).

#PSA: the #QUIK #SMS [app] has been updated, and it's way better than before.

I used to have problems with it because the pictures it sent via #MMS were of far poorer quality than the other programs I tried (including the #AOSP default Messaging app), but they seem to have fixed that.

They also have added a nice big button to trigger your phone's native dictation service (you can turn that off if you don't want it, or don't have one).

It has successfully replaced the proprietary SMS program I was using before, which makes me quite glad.

Can #Government Read My #TextMessages?
Also known as #SMS, #MMS, or #RCS messages—aren’t usually #encrypted. These conversations can then be requested by law enforcement with a subpoena. Agencies like the #NSA can capture and store messages as they travel over the network, or any number of #lawenforcement agencies can employ technologies like cell-site simulators to capture messages.
But other messenger apps like #Signal & #WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted by default.

Since Samsung has apparently discontinued support for RCS in its Messages app, I had to switch to the Google Messages app. Since I don't particularly like Google, I'm looking for a free app (FOSS) that supports RCS and, if possible, also supports bubbles and quick replies. Does anyone know of a suitable app from the F-Droid Store? I really appreciate any tips.
