Harald Kliems<p>I was inspired by an article in the Seattle Times: How has car ownership changed over time in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MadisonWI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MadisonWI</span></a>? Here's a blog post are a number of charts based on American Community Survey data. tl;dr Car ownership has continued to grow since 2006, but it's mostly driven by the growth in households. On a per-household level, there aren't more cars. <a href="https://haraldkliems.netlify.app/posts/2025-09-21-how-many-cars-are-there-in-madison/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">haraldkliems.netlify.app/posts</span><span class="invisible">/2025-09-21-how-many-cars-are-there-in-madison/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/urbanism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>urbanism</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/AmericanCommunitySurvey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmericanCommunitySurvey</span></a></p>
Evan Genest<p>Went to a very small theater, the Evjue Stage at Bartell, Madison WI, a small chapel of a space, with ~80 seats.. Didn't know what to expect from the Mercury Players Hamlet. Turned out to be excellent! </p><p>Hamlet's timing vis-a-vis Guildenstern/Rosencrantz was awesome. So was Hamlet viz Polonious: ("Words, words, words...") I loved their mutual aggression when they locked eyes, inches from each other, and went through the clouds-shaped-like-camels routine, playing it as a violent exchange. </p><p>These three were among the best I have ever seen: <br>Polonious: Travis Bedard<br>Hamlet: Stacey A. Garbarski<br>Claudius: Bryan Metrish </p><p>The director edited the script nicely to resize King Claudius to a smaller part of the story. I loved the staging of "To be or not to be soliloquey as a freeze frame, delivered by Horation (Brent Holmes). Horatio's student-costume was nice, as was Claudius' well fitted rich-guy suit.</p><p>Great work by Sean Langenecker as the guard in scene 1, and the traveling tragedian. </p><p>Still playing, through next weekend, $25.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/hamlet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamlet</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/shakespeare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>shakespeare</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/madisonwi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>madisonwi</span></a></p>

Evan Genest<p>This year, all of the oak trees decided to have an extra big acorn release. It’s almost a problem - like a flood. One house has a sign in front that says “free acorns” next to it: two barrels. On my morning walks I had the mistake to think people had doors opening and closing. There are gunshot sounds of acorns all day long and all night long this month here in Madison Wisconsin. <a href="https://c.im/tags/madisonwi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>madisonwi</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/forest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>forest</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/oaktree" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oaktree</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/autumn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>autumn</span></a></p>
