Phil Stooke<p>Landings at Margaritifer and Syrtis Major would look for vegetation in dark areas and land when it might be growing during that 'wave'. The 'Mountains of Mitchel' was an area which stayed white for a while after the south polar cap had receded in the spring, inferred to be a mountain range. It's now seen as the rim of a large impact basin.</p><p>Tomorrow: Voyager.
