"If you're not a #protester but you want to #protect protesters from criminal prosecution, start wearing a #mask out in #public when you're doing ordinary things. Mask up at the grocery store, on public transit, at the library, to work, to school. Make the case with your face that protest is ordinary."

(And a quality #mask can reduce the risk of contracting #airborne #disease from ~70-100% depending on type and fit. Even a well-fitting KF94 does better than double "30% resist disease", and other small things like meeting outdoors or simply opening a window can greatly reduce risk of airborne disease, both for you and #everyone else.)

We enjoyed the Public Ranch Walking Tour, including an olive oil tasting, at McEvoy Ranch. The property is beautiful & the olive oils were so flavorful!

I especially appreciated the respectfulness of the staff. Masking was refreshingly not uncommon in San Francisco, but much less common in wine country. In the McEvoy Ranch shop, the staff didn't bat an eye at my mask; they 100% made me feel welcome, comfortable, and valued.

Variant on that: the opthalmologist I saw today put on a surgical #mask when she saw my #respirator, but only when she moved within a foot of me. More than a foot away in a small, confined space — absolutely not a problem, right? 🙄

The lady who helped me choose glasses wore two surgical masks, one over the other. I've not seen a study on that, but I'd guess it makes things worse, rather than better, because it increases the proportion of air that escapes round the sides of the mask rather than being filtered through it. Do you know more about that than I do?

In American life, a growing and forbidding visual rises: The law-enforcement officer in a #mask

NEW YORK (AP) — "In a matter of months, it has become a regular sight around the country — immigration enforcement agents detaining people and taking them into custody, often as public anger and outcry unfold around them. But in the process, something has disappeared: the agents’ faces, covered by caps, sunglasses, pulled-up neck gaiters or balaclavas, effectively rendering them unidentifiable.

"With the year only half over, the covered face — as deployed by law enforcement in a wave of #ImmigrationCrackdowns directed by President Donald Trump’s White House — has become one of the most potent and contentious visuals of 2025.

"The increase in high-profile immigration enforcement was already contentious between those opposed to the actions of Trump’s administration and those in support of them. The sight of masked agents carrying it out is creating a whole new level of conflict, in a way that has no real comparison in the U.S. history of policing.

"Trump administration officials have consistently defended the practice, saying that immigration agents have faced strident and increasing harassment in public and online as they have gone about their enforcement in service of Trump’s drive toward mass deportation, and hiding their identities is for their and their families’ safety to avoid things like death threats and doxing, where someone’s personal information is released without their permission on the internet."

Are #yallmasking ? #Covid along with many other #airborne viruses that destroy immune systems (you’re immunocompromised if you’ve ever had Covid, by the way. Whether you care to admit it or not) are dangerous not just in the accuse phase, but chronically. Meaning…long term to forever.

If you’re not wearing a #mask in all public spaces, you’re not a #leftist , you’re not a #comrade , you are #ableist and you are #antiscience .

So if you want to be a comrad and not ableist, #wearamask #MaskUp

I can go months, perfectly content in my #mask, no one bothering me, and then -- boom! A random person makes a disparaging comment & my fortitude is shaken. I need to tell myself to brush it off, buck up, remind myself that I'm being reasonable in trying to protect my health & others'.

It's just a lot of mental & emotional work. And it shouldn't be necessary, but it is.

Which is upsetting & infuriating. But I can't let it get to me, or I wouldn't be able to keep #masking.
