A statue of a rooster in #LittleHavana #MiamiDadeCounty #SoFla. These statues are all over the place. Legend has it the city forced a man to get rid of his beloved pet rooster. So he made a sculpture of it. Everyone wanted a sculpture, so the man made many more sculptures and you can find them all over town. He had to stop making them when the city ordered him to stop. #photography There are chickens, as in living ones, all over the place, from Downtown Miami to the western suburbs by the Everglades. For whatever reason it seems there are fewer around town after the holiday season.

Child e-scooter rider sent to hospital, third collision in a week :

It was the third e-scooter collision in 24 hours, said Police Chief Frank Sousa, who said the use of e-scooter and e-bikes in the village was again becoming a safety issue.

This rare #crustacean species lives underground in the #BiscayneAquifer, in #MiamiDadeCounty, which is increasingly impacted by #SaltwaterIntrusion.

FWS.govMiami Cave Crayfish | U.S. Fish & Wildlife ServiceBased on the best available science, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to list the subterranean Miami cave crayfish as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act with an accompanying section 4(d) rule. The Service is not proposing to designate critical habitat at this time.

The #MiamiTigerBeetle will have #CriticalHabitat finalized and The #BractedTwistflower will be listed as a #ThreatenedSpecies (with critical habitat designated) under the #EndangeredSpeciesAct, the #CenterForBiologicalDiversity announced.

The #Miami #TigerBeetle lives in the #PineRocklands of very urbanized #SouthFlorida in #MiamiDadeCounty, while the bracted twistflower is found in #UvaldeCounty, #BexarCounty, #MedinaCounty, and #TravisCounty in #Texas, roughly coinciding with the #I35Corridor.

#SouthFlorida is, of course, riddled and rattled with a continuously fluctuating array of non-native species small and large. Featured here is one of our larger lizard imports, #AnolisEquestris, the #CubanKnightAnole, photographed in #MiamiDadeCounty, #Florida (11 June 2016). This large crown giant species is now well-situated throughout much of the Florida peninsula.
