Kevin Karhan :verified:<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@RandamuMaki" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>RandamuMaki</span></a></span> to me it's more like the corporate perspective of <em>"<a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Buying" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Buying</span></a>"</em> vs. <em>"All-inclusive <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/leasing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>leasing</span></a>"</em> for fleet vehicles because the former one may save money nongtern but the latter can be more flexible and doesn't require having 4-6 digits expenses being approved through the procurement chain.</p><ul><li>After all they'd either <em>acquire</em> an asset they'd have to care for vs. <em>subscribing to a service</em> that also does as much of the paperwork they legally can (OFC charging for the <em>"convenience"</em>)...</li></ul><p>And yes I've been in companies where it was easier to spend €10k on <em>renting</em> a server than spending more than €1k in purchases because a monthly-cancellable leasing was easier to get approved than a purchase due to accounting and tax writeoffs.</p><ul><li><em>THIS</em> is why a lot of <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Startups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Startups</span></a> are <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/MoneyBurningParties" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MoneyBurningParties</span></a> because they can just blow $$$$$$ on <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/aws" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aws</span></a> (effectively paying for their own <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/IndustrialEspionage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IndustrialEspionage</span></a>!) than exercising actual ownership...</li></ul>
