Today, someone replied to a year-old comment I made on a @wikidata discussion about sex and gender, where some editors apparently think that since (by their estimate) fewer than 1% of people are #trans or #nonbinary, the distinction between sex and gender can be simply ignored.

The Earth's population is currently approximately 8.2 billion people. That makes, in their consideration, approximately 82 million of us simply a rounding error. Nice to know.

I laid down the line in the sand, half expecting someone to walk out. Thankfully, they didn’t and my message was delivered in no uncertain terms. Although the 20 students were a bit stunned by my frankness, I relied on the respect earned from last semester, especially the few who thanked me for creating a “safe space.”
