Erik van Straten<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.scot/@peterbrown" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>peterbrown</span></a></span> : it depends.</p><p>If a group of people, among them some making a lot more "noise" than others, claims that land (where Palestinians have been living for many generations) belongs to them,</p><p>• because their Bible says so, and/or<br>• because their ancestors lived there 2000+ years ago,<br>• and/or because the British Kingdom gave it to them after WWII</p><p>- while they are not willing to share that land and treat others like they want themselves to be treated, and therefore they claim to have the right to hunt and eliminate all Palestinians (who understandably fought and fight back, as I would have done) and have 10,000+ of them taken hostage (thereby severely mistreating them), more than 3000 of them in "administrative detention" - is that evil?</p><p>Or are they simply making themselves one of the most HATED people in the world, resulting in zero safety for themselves for a very long time?</p><p>In particular once the USA gives up on them (Trump will not live forever) after which the EU will follow immediately. Back in the day, fitness became an obsession for me, and I’ve learned that no single pursuit should take over—balance is key. It’s the same with what I’m doing now; I have to be able to step away from the keyboard. I wonder sometimes if obsession is just another form of addiction. I used to think I had a touch of OCD, but that’s clearly not the case anymore—one look at my office would prove that.
