I just had a visit by #OccupationalTherapy today to do an evaluation and see where they can help make our lovely home a bit safer for me to move around in, they were excellent, will handle liasing with the landlords and sorting everything we need doing. The downside is my #visible illness tracker is telling me I've used all my points for the day already so I'm going to rest up while the wife gets the food shop then my daughter can help me make the chicken tikka for dinner. #MECFS #spoonies 2/?

We were delighted to be invited to assist the Royal College of Occupational Therapists with their new guide.

🚨Calling health, social care & medical professionals🚨

We need to come together to challenge this absurd, discriminatory & damaging new ruling of criteria to be met in order to be referred for an autism assessment

Could our professional bodies provide support to reverse this?

In honor of my first time attending the #ATIA conference, I'd like to share a playlist I created while serving as a volunteer at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly RIC) in #Chicago. I made it so therapists leading group activities would have something fun for people to listen to. Please enjoy!

YouTube MusicKathleen's Picks for Rehab Hits!I chose these songs to provide an uptempo soundtrack for rehab groups at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. Lift heavy, walk far!

I'd love people to share their sensory joys!

Are there specific movements you love to do and get a great feeling from?

Are there gorgeous objects, colours, landscapes you love to see and look at?

What types of materials do you love the feel of?

Do certain sounds transcend you to somewhere wonderful?

We all experience the world through our senses and each one of us has a different experience to each other.

Some can be negative, stressful, challenging and painful but some can be truly wonderful, restorative and beautiful experiences.

By knowing our own unique sensory processing profile, we can start to be more in control of the way we feel and our energy levels by adapting our sensory environment.

“Experts have long recognized the link between messiness and mental health. The clutter that can accumulate when people are experiencing a mental health crisis is neither a form of hoarding, nor the result of laziness. The culprit is extreme fatigue.” nytimes.com/2023/01/10/well/mi 🪴 #mentalhealth #wellness #wellbeing #selfcare #home #psychology #psychiatry #socialwork #occupationaltherapy #help
