Cuba’s Top Diplomat: Rubio Serves Personal Agenda, Not U.S. Interests

At a press conference held in Havana, Cuba’s Foreign Minister #BrunoRodríguez presented the country’s annual report on the effects of the #US blockade (also known as the embargo) and criticized US Secretary of State #MarcoRubio, accusing him of pursuing a politically motivated personal agenda tied to corrupt interests in Florida.

According to the report, U.S. sanctions caused Cuba to suffer $7.5 billion in material damages and losses, a 49% increase compared to those of the previous year.

Over 150 people were deported from the US to Cuba on August 28. It was the eighth #deportation flight this year. Cuba has continued to honor its bilateral migration agreement with the #US even as the Trump administration has ratcheted up the US government’s economic war on the country.

Earlier this year, the #Trump administration unilaterally ended the bilateral #migration talks that were held regularly under Biden. Meanwhile, Trump has ramped up sanctions on the island.

“You cannot impose a harsh blockade on a whole population, and at the same time, say that you want the best for the Cuban people,” said Alejandro García del Toro, an official at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Another home for #Cuba #BellyOfTheBeast videos - Cuddly.Tube

In addition to YouTube and Instagram, there is now another place to view Belly of the Beast videos - cuddly.tube, hosted on a non-commercial server. I set it up and maintain it, in collaboration with Belly of the Beast staff.

Unlike the other two, it is based on an open-source video streaming platform called Peertube, which is part of the Fediverse.

Once you connect to it you will notice a lack of advertising and other screens coming at you. And there is no tracking. It is not as polished as YouTube but I still think it is more pleasant to use.

For over 60 years, the #US government has imposed a harsh blockade along with economic and political warfare aimed at destabilizing and overthrowing the #Cuban government. As part of this project, it has also incentivized Cuban emigration by offering special pathways to residency and citizenship if they made their way to the U.S. The narrative that they are “victims of Communism” seeking freedom is misleading. In reality the hardships created by the U.S. blockade, more than political differences, have fueled emigration. These bribes were intended to turn them into pawns in Washington’s war against #Cuba.
