Rhyothemis<p>Acacia gum (aka gum arabic) is inexpensive, has a mild taste, &amp; it made my tea a bit thicker, which I like. It gave me a sense of well-being that I get when a prebiotic is doing its job. Unfortunately, acacia is a legume and I react to legumes, so after the second day of taking 6 g* I had increasing dysphagia, so I discontinued.</p><p>I should have expected as much, but - nothing ventured, nothing gained.</p><p>It was also difficult to dissolve. I had best success in that regard by whisking it slowly into a bit of oatmilk (cold, of course), which I then added to my tea. </p><p>* this study ⬇️ found benefit at a dose of 10 g / day. If I had not had a reaction to it I would have worked my way up to that dose.<br><a href="https://doi.org/10.1017/S0007114508981447" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">doi.org/10.1017/S0007114508981</span><span class="invisible">447</span></a></p><p><a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/supplements" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>supplements</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/fiber" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fiber</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/GutMicrobiome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GutMicrobiome</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/prebiotics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>prebiotics</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/IBS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IBS</span></a>-C <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/AcaciaGum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AcaciaGum</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/GumArabic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GumArabic</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/NaturalProducts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NaturalProducts</span></a></p>

It seems science is catching up with what I surmised -- that Covid messes with one's microbiome, which in turn affects our brains and other systems!</p><p>A new possible explanation for long COVID could lead to a simple treatment for some patients</p><p>By Erin Prater, October 16, 2023</p><p>"While it might seem logical that neurologic long COVID symptoms like brain fog, memory loss, and depression are caused by the presence of virus in the brain, researchers in Pennsylvania propose a different theory: that virus lingering in the gut causes such symptoms in a round-about way.</p><p>It works like this: SARS-CoV-2 lingering in the gut causes persistent inflammation, which leads to reduced production of serotonin—a chemical that sends messages between the brain and other parts of the body. It also plays a key role in regulating sleep, mood, digestion, and blood clotting, among other bodily functions. </p><p>A lack of serotonin, in turn, disrupts connectivity between the peripheral nervous system and the brain, causing neurologic symptoms."</p><p><a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/a-new-possible-explanation-for-long-covid-could-lead-to-a-simple-treatment-for-some-patients/ar-AA1ijyMT?rc=1&amp;ocid=winp1taskbar&amp;cvid=80fcab4fc4ea47c1d9877eeb0e0b0210&amp;ei=6" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">msn.com/en-us/health/medical/a</span><span class="invisible">-new-possible-explanation-for-long-covid-could-lead-to-a-simple-treatment-for-some-patients/ar-AA1ijyMT?rc=1&amp;ocid=winp1taskbar&amp;cvid=80fcab4fc4ea47c1d9877eeb0e0b0210&amp;ei=6</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LongHaulCovid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LongHaulCovid</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LongHaul" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LongHaul</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Seratonin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Seratonin</span></a></p>
