I made this linocut for a friend's birthday. Yesterday I printed some postcards with it. But, I still need to figure out how much paint I have to apply to the linoleum and how to get a good amount of pressure everywhere.
simple substances should have simple names & compounds should have compound names designating their parts. A 19th century painting of them notably includes both Picardet & Mme Lavoisier who deserve to be remembered.

I'm excited to reveal the artwork for this year's LIMESTONE CYCLING TOUR t-shirt. I was asked to make a design that included bicycles and downtown Maysville.
This woodcut design uses 3 colors - and white- to keep the t-shirt printing process simple -and in budget
If you'd like to to participate in this year's ride (and get one of their beautiful t-shirts) more information is available on their website:

The transverse-banded flower fly and purple coneflowers are native to eastern North America. Each print is made by hand on assorted, beautiful Japanese washi papers and collaged to make the final 8” x 10” image, which are hand-embellished with posca pens.

I'm preparing a new linocut print, and this time i wanted to preview the balance between the black zones and the thin lines. I'm pretty pleased with the result, so before i start actually carving the picture on lino, here's a sneak peek

Queen Nefertiti (final print)
Printed with a bit more care and stuck it in a frame.
An idea in progress. Been wondering about this print for a while and how to combine reduction and trace monotype processes. I settled on masking an area and it’s not quite worked out, but I can see enough in the process to try again. For now, this attempt hangs up to dry for it may yet grown on me. Print 20 x 30 cm.
Next print in progress, starting with the centre of the echinacea or purple coneflower…
“Parliament” is in a gothic script. “Owls” has an owl eye for ‘o’ and the remaining letters are feathered. The owls are, right to left and top to bottom: the Eastern screech, Northern saw-whet, long-eared, Barred, Great Horned and the American Barn owls.

Happy birthday to trailblazing American computer scientist Frances Elizabeth Allen (1932 – 2020) who made foundational contributions to optimizing compilers, optimizing programs and parallel computing. She was the first woman to become an IBM Fellow, where she worked from 1957 to 2002 and as an emeritus fellow afterwards. She was the first woman to win the Turing Prize.

I thought that I had bitten off more than I could chew halfway through this project, but I am pleased with the result. I had to think differently about how I approached the drypoint and I learnt a lot.
In The Netherlands, 2025 is the year of the Common Kestrel.
Still one of the most frequently seen birds of prey in the Netherlands, the kestrel is finding it increasingly difficult to survive in a depleting landscape. Thus, extra research and attention for this characteristic hunter.
I made a print of the kestrel and am donating part of the proceeds from its sale to @Sovon to support their important work:

It's been quite a while since I did some #penAndInk work, and for whatever reason, this felt like a good week to stretch those particular legs. It also gave me the opportunity to do something much looser than my normal process, and just ink directly on linoleum with india ink, then do my best to preserve the character of the line work in the carving. I think it turned out well!
I'll probably do more of this kind of work down the road, it's quite enjoyable
