It’s been about a year since I’ve done any interesting personal tech project … but I have started sourdough bread, gardened all the things, started some woodcraft projects with my kids, and rebuilt our bikes.

Been thinking about this graphic for quite a while. A couple of years, I think. It's been going around social media for a while. At one point I hunted down its origin, and... anyway, I'm going to basically dump all my issues with this right here.

Right up front: some people will think I'm obviously racist for criticizing something intended to be antiracist. And I do think the creator (and definitely the people sharing this around) have their hearts in the right place. Unfortunately (maybe just for me), that's not how science works, and I think this graphic was created in a way that essentially asks for the legitimacy of science despite having no scientific foundation.

The unloadening of mine issues shall begin in the reply to this.

Terrorism - I would/have killed a black person simply for being black - I inflict fear upon black people on purpose - Violent black face (Depict Hangings, etc.) (unclear category) - I inflict fear upon black people "as a joke" Overt racism - Whites are the superior race - Blacks should be sent back to Africa - Whites are under attack/will be minorities soon (unclear category) - Blacks are naturally more violent/less intelligent Subconscious racism - The way things are is god's will - "I'm not racist but..." - Thugs - "Funny" black face (unclear category) - That is their problem, not mine Indifference - that has nothing to do with me - How am I privileged if I am poor? (unclear category) - But black on black crime! Defensive - It's just a joke - I just don't like "ghetto" - Calling the police because black folk makes you uncomfortable Justification - What about reverse racism? - If he/they had just... - I have black friends (unclear category) - we had a black president therefore black people are not oppressed Denial - I don't see color - Racism no longer exists - slavery ended 200 years ago White Savior - Whites were slaves too - There are plenty of successful POC; they just need to work harder - If we can't use the "N" word, they shouldn't either (alt text continued on the second copy of this image... there's a lot of text)

I will let them lead and not try to be at the center.
