Continued thread

I was this years old when I found out what exactly God's #PromisedLand Land really is.

I was looking for a biblical reference to the promise and I came across the attached reference.

In the Bible, God promised most of the Middle East to Abram *and his descendants*

among whom you'll see Ishmael, Abram's first son.

If the #Jews are entitled to live in the Promised Land through as descendants of Isaac/Israel ... then the #Palestinians are entitled too, as descendants of Ishmael.

WIBF!!

They collect money to give to Israeli settlers used to buy guns to pierce the hearts of Palestinian children. Literally or otherwise.

But God loves them, because they read the bible all day and pray for Zionists (and idiots like themselves).

I've become slightly obsessed with DJ Mag's ongoing series of short docs on all the bangers, but this tale has an impressive cast of characters including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Prince, Nelson Mandela and Paul Weller (who could have waited a bit to let the original get some traction before putting out his soggy cover ffs) #JoeSmooth #PromisedLand youtu.be/MprKyA5tphg?si=m5tMq_

Unchecked tourism at Bellingen's Never Never River
Indigenous custodians embrace chance to curb tourism at 'trashed' swimming spot

"Occasional closure part of Indigenous Protected Area plan for troubled Never Never River's Promised Lands. The spot has now been declared part of an 81,000-hectare Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) in the Bellingen Valley."

"There have been concerns about pollution in the Never Never River at a popular swimming spot known as the Promised Lands, near the town of Bellingen...In January 2023, water quality at the river showed concerning levels of faecal matter, with human and dog excrement the suspected source."

"It was once regarded as something of a secret spot, but coverage on social media has seen it become an increasingly popular swimming site. But as the site is not recognised as a tourist area by Forestry Corporation NSW, which manages the Crown Land, there are no public toilets or rubbish bins, and minimal parking."

"Rather than it being a free-for-all, driving up and down from sacred places, we need to give it a rest sometimes during the year."

IMO a great many Palestinians are right when they tell us western people that the underlying issue, for a little over 100 years, should have been none of our business.

We are not the good guys.

I am sorry to hear that.

I'm also sorry for the death of my grandfather's family (he was a Jew, born in 1900, and only survived WW2 because he was maried to a Dutch woman) and al the other Jews (and Roma, Sinti, gays, and freedom fighters - undoubtly called terrorists by the opponent) during previous wars.

And I'm also sorry that I was brainwashed by western media and history books into believing that Palestinians were terrorists and Israeli's, Americans and others who condemned Palestinian attacks were the "good guys".

<<< But my question remains, if you were Israeli leadership what would you have personally done if you were in that situation? >>>

And my statement remains: the Israeli leadership has itself to blame for letting the hatred escalate until the Oct. 7 burst, and it has still not learned yet - as we see IDF violence bursting every day since.

Trying to answer your silly question: I sincerely hope that I would be as courageous and smart as the Palestinian doctors [1] and journalists who, after losing their beloved ones or immediately after being released from captivity and torture: not pick up a gun, but a stethoscope or a camera and a pen instead.

@wschenk wrote: "my question was specifically if you were the Israeli leadership the day of the attack that just killed a bunch of your citizens. Your step 5 is nonsensical in that context - the leadership on both sides is what it is, and my question is what would you do given that the actual situation as it occurred had happened and you had to choose a course of action."

Nonsensical is what Israel and their fans continue to do: claim that history started on Oct. 7.

If I'm not mistaken, the bible mentions someting about "turning the other cheek" but I can imagine why that was not an option.

However, the bible also reads something like "an eye for an eye". I'm not sure whether a similar number of Palestinian casualties was reached on October 7, or some days later.

Meanwhile the Israely government has had plenty of time to *think* about what their goals are and how they try to reach them. Continuing their ethnic cleansing is thoroughly *planned*, which makes it worse than what Hamas did: the outcome of what their members did on Oct. 7 was not planned.

In the eyes of many Palestinians, the 7 Oct. attack is one in a row of *defensive* actions. Isreal is stealing their land (also on the Westbank) and severely discriminating them.

One can state that killing approx. 1150 and taking hostage another 200 (?) people on the Israeli side is too extreme to be called a "defensive action".

However, then what has killing of more than 36,000 Palestinians to do with a "defensive action"? Why is the IDF not called the IOF?

Eventually, the "IDF" may be able to kill all *current* members of Hamas or torture them to near (or actual) death in prisons without a trial, but:

• That's not justice. A *fair* trial is.

• Hamas is a *symptom*, not the problem. Most members of Hamas are people like the Ukrainians (and possibly like you and me in case *we* were attacked) who are trying to defend their land, possessions, relatives, wives and children. Some are barbaric idiots - like you can find in any population. Killing every current member of Hamas will *not* stop the violence - on the contrary.

• The "collateral damage" in Gaza (human lives and infrastructure) is unimaginable.

• Blowing up abandoned houses, bombing and shooting women, children and aid workers, cutting off supplies of clean water, food, fuel, medical aids, has nothing to do with defeating Hamas. That's why it's called genocide.

Violence, extreme types in particular, sooner or later will return to the committer like a boomerang.

@wschenk wrote: "Let's hear some concrete suggestions of what you do if you were the Israeli government and Hamas attacked civilians like they did."

Read bottom-up and don't skip a single step.

5) All parties: isolate extremists and elect leaders who are willing to be fair and respect human rights and international laws.

4) Think about and understand what lead Hamas to attack civilians like they did. Who drove them to become such beasts? "The war" did not start on Oct. 7, just one example: [1].

3) Acknowledge that no part of the surface of the earth *fundamentally* belongs to a specific person or group (that surface was there long before people existed, and its habitability and resources will keep changing over time). "Ownership" of land was made up by humans. When "assigning" land to individuals or groups, fairness (non-extremism, no polarization) leads to the least violence.

2) Stop thinking that you are a better person, for whatever reason, than anyone else. Respect and treat everyone else like you want them to respect and treat you.

1) Stop thinking and arguing that a piece of land belongs to you, or "your people", because *your* religion says so and/or because *your* ancestors lived there way back when.

Multi-drug resistant bacteria in dog poo and aquatic wildlife habitats?

Pet dogs "might be carrying antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, according to international researchers who tested E. coli found in the poo of pet dogs. They found evidence that the bacteria had developed some forms of antimicrobial resistance. The team suggest that efforts should be taken to prevent the transmission of E. coli between humans and their pets as this may pose a threat to human health."

The poo problem
Unburied waste left by bushwalkers and swimmers causes a range of pollution problems.

National park rangers "find faeces near rivers, lakes, streams, and campsites and even next to toilets...We go along and pick those [poos] up and take them back to a toilet."

It is "expensive to install toilets in remote areas and fly the waste back to civilisation. It's about $3,000 an hour to pay for a helicopter to remove peoples' poo."
Rangers actively promote the poo pot.

Gleniffer Reserves and waterways management

There will be a review of the 5 year management plan of the Gleniffer Reserves. A meeting will be held at the Gleniffer Hall on Tuesday 23rd January from 9.30am to 12 noon.

Once residents and visitors have frequented the local watering holes in Bellingen, the swimming holes at Gleniffer are the main thing to do on a hot day. The mass tourism is funneled via ' the tourist drive'. The scenic country road has just been reconstructed into a highway-like infrastructure. Motorists are now enticed to race from the watering hole to the swimming hole. Cars park as close as possible to the small creeks and unload dogs and gear. The unwanted waste is commonly left behind for the local wildlife and the next load of visitors.

The reserves have a lot of car parking infrastructure and educational signage about settler explorers now.

A "Go before you go” campaign urges visitors to go to a public toilet before leaving the township. Many motorists/swimmers forget and the dogs can't read.

The 'upgrade' of Gleniffer road channeled the flow of visitors into local waterways that have no toilets.

>> Also Palestine was there long before jews even existed

According to the Bible, #Moses led #Israelites from slavery in #Egypt to what #Jews call #PromisedLand, where 12 sons of patriarch #Israel formed 12 tribes of ancient Israel.

In 12th century BCE, non-Semitic people known as #Philistines came from Crete and settled the SOUTHERN plains (Canaan) only, not the whole region. That land is claimed by Philistines as #Palestine

Redesigning roads and intersections to put humans first – The Bellingen case

Bellingen just 'upgraded' Gleniffer Road (The $5.2M “gate way to the Promised Land”) and North Bank Road. Both put fossil fuel vehicles first and forgot emission free mobility for people.
But cyclists and foot traffic deserve the same direct routes that motorists have. Elsewhere they rethink transport planning to promote safer cycling and walking options. Another missed opportunity to put Bellingen on the map for pollution free country cruising.
