Another #tree in the #Montreal #metro network is the Tree of Life at Lionel-Groulx. A rather simple to understand, yet still powerful #sculpture. The steel mural is said to "reflect passengers' movements below" but I interpreted as the up-and-down movement (given the station's famous transfer flow) being carved into the wall... (And yes, the photos did drop in quality a bit at the end...)

@virtuous_sloth @notjustbikes I'm pretty sure Melbourne doesn't have single-point switching ( @railmaps, @danielbowen or @philip please correct me if I'm wrong on ghat one).

But otherwise, Melbourne's tram network is basically a bigger version of Toronto's streetcar network.

And it has many of the same issues across large parts of the network. That includes passengers boarding from the footpath in many places; a lack of dedicated lanes; a lack of traffic light priority.

While some sections of some lines run along pedestrianised streets, most notably Swanston and Bourke, most of the rest of the network is in mixed traffic.

Likewise, while there's island platforms at many CBD stops, that's not always the case once you leave the inner city.

Both Toronto and Melbourne could have world class light rail systems with some cost effective upgrades and extensions.

Some #Montreal #metro stations are boring. Place d'Armes, uncomfortably embedded under the Palais des Congrès, unfortunately falls into that pile. This #StainedGlass #artwork - added in 2017 - is the only decoration in the station (other than the unlit archaeological displays on the platform) and, having taken an #infoviz class, I knew exactly why I took a photo of it - the glory of colour scale! ...and the sun.

Oooooh.

Ember bus launch a new route on Wednesday. From Dundee to Aberdeen Airport, with limited stops at Blairgowrie, Braemar and Banchory.

1 return route a day at the moment.

I think a solo day adventure might be in order.

Here are some pictures of our pilgrimage to the Hot Rat Summer mosaic.

We took transit: bus and light rail.

Obligatory pause for lament:
"Why, oh why, are they taking so long to extend the Rail",
"When, oh when, will it make it to town".

The view from the top of the double-decker bus is not bad, though, and easy to get the top-front seats during non-commuting hours. Attempted to explain "carpool" to Little Kid, who looked at me in disbelief as there was no visible "pool".

If you're wondering why there's a need for investment in additional track infrastructure in Manchester, there's been a problem with signals this morning and there's an hour's worth of trains waiting to go across that single track line between Piccadilly and Oxford Road and a 57-carriage freight train has just gone through.

Joel does it again - a lovely story about the good things we have. I don’t catch buses much being too happy on an #ebike but this is the route I do catch occasionally. 100% Can recommend. #publictransport
