Just finished reading #Pygmalion and am wondering who finds Henry Higgins to be some variation of neurospicy. It explains a lot of his behavior, I think, though Shaw himself (in intro and afterword) writes off his behaviour in other ways. Higgins is also a confirmed bachelor and not gay. He'd fall in the ace/aro category of written now.

Just saw PYGMALION (1938) on 35mm at the Paris Theater in NYC.
Wendy Hiller and Leslie Howard had roughly the same age difference as Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, but their chemistry is infinitely more genuine.
George Bernard Shaw’s Oscar-winning adaptation of his play feels like a screwball comedy. Delightful.
I still remember seeing Neil Halstead performing solo at The Evelyn in the early 2000s, and @acb dashing home to get his copy of Pygmalion to get a signature on it. I was still catching up at the time, but it’s definitely one of those albums you either Get™ or you don’t. I’m glad I do, and the connections to Bark Psychosis aren’t lost on me.

Since Friday I've seen mention elsewhere that the official #WinterAhead is the Greek tale of #Pygmalion where a Cypriot sculptor carved a perfect woman out of ivory alabaster. He kissed her on Aphrodite's festival day, and she came alive. ( V is now mentioned on Pygmalion Wikipedia!)

In Roman mythology, the sculptor Pygmalion fell in love with the beautiful statue he'd carved out of ivory alabaster. He even began to woo it. The goddess Venus was so touched by Pygmalion's passion that the next time he kissed the statue, she turned it into a real woman.

So-called ‘lucky’ people tend to have more family, friends, mentors, teachers, etc. that may subconsciously 'expect' more of them and encourage curiosity / achievement.
‘Unlucky’ people may have fewer people giving them encouragement.
These persons perceived as ‘lucky' also somehow seem more enthused towards curiousity and achievement.
Then there are people who purely make ‘luck’ for themselves regardless of their environment with their own expectations.
Listening on Easter -of course- to the Matthäus Passion. Another attempt at the version by #Pygmalion / Raphaël #Pichon, given the raving reviews last year. The articulation is superb. Every word can be heard. And the tempi are very well chosen. Not too slow and certainly not too fast. Not sure though if it will defeat my favorite version by La Petite Bande.
