The #Italian defence company #Leonardo has been given a £165m contract extension by the #British government for its work maintaining the #RoyalNavy’s fleet of 54 #MerlinHelicopters, in a sign of the impact of the #UK’s commitment to ramp up #defence spending.

#KeirStarmer’s government, which is planning to increase #military spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, said the deal with Leonardo would help to bolster #NationalSecurity.

Hundreds of non-noon positions have been added to the 1914-1915 journey of #RoyalNavy's hired yacht HMS Thistle (2).
They add more detail to her #WW1 operations in British waters, as can be seen in the second image.
The positions have been calculated from bearings to landmarks mentioned in the log-books.

#OTD 16 March 1917: HMS Achilles and HMS Dundee sank German raider SMS Leopard.
All Achilles recorded in her log-book: '4.33pm: Sank Raider.'
