@dangillmor "what if they had a war and nobody came" ... ok but what if the "rule of law" being fetishized here had already been used to wage that war - the class war - our whole entire lives? What if you are only starting to notice it now because the #RulingClass has ramped up a "shock and awe" campaign against migrants and the impoverished, and turned on some of its former class allies?

Despite making up only 10% of the country’s population, the #Alawites exerted outsized influence during the #Assad family’s >50-yr rule. The Alawites, who practice an offshoot of #Shiite Islam, dominated the #RulingClass & upper ranks of the #military under Assad.

The new govt called on all members of Assad’s forces to relinquish their ties to the fmr govt & surrender their weapons at “reconciliation centers.” While thousands have taken part in that process, some…have not.

The actions of the #usa of late have again proven that rule of law is applicable only when they want to use it against the #workingclass. There was a felony conviction for #trump but he never had a punishment. If the law doesn't matter then why do people follow it.
