🐍🎂 Darwin's Monster: The Australian Three-Toed Skink

I really like Stated Clearly’s attitude towards evolution by natural selection, evidence and science communication. Very true to its name.

Take note there are subtitles in various languages.

This bizarre little creature might look like nature couldn’t make up its mind—but hidden in its odd features are powerful clues about how evolution works.
In this episode of Stated Clearly, science communicator Jon Perry examines a living species that provides compelling evidence for evolution. Through close observation of this one animal, we explore how traits can be lost, how new ones emerge, and how environmental pressures drive change over generations.
Whether you're curious about evolutionary biology, teaching science in the classroom, or just love weird animals with amazing backstories, this video is for you.

This isn’t a lecture—it’s a journey through the living world that will leave you looking at snakes, lizards, and pregnancy, in a whole new light.
Watch now to see what makes this creature one of Darwin’s little monsters.

Cluster scientist spotlight!

Sarah Chan, PhD PhD Student, Plant and Wildlife Sciences, Brigham Young University

What advice do you have for students interested in science?

"There is always more to know about our world, and the more your learn, the more you'll be able to figure out what new things YOU can discover."

Next #SETILive: Tiny Asteroids Big Threats
TODAY, Thursday, May 01, 2025 11:00 AM PDT / 1:00 PM EDT

Scientists have used the JWST to detect 138 of the smallest asteroids (as small as 10 meters) ever observed in the asteroid belt. Join planetary astronomer Franck Marchis in a conversation with lead authors Artem Y. Burdanov and Julien de Wit as they discuss these smaller asteroids and what they can reveal about potential threats to our planet.

When did the DWD weather app change wind speeds from km/h to m/s? Didn't we realize years ago that communicating dangers in commonly understandable terms is important and has been neglected in the past? Guess they didn't learn a lot. m/s is much less intuitive. We reach Beaufort 10 today, which is dangerous and will most likely lead to heavier objects flying around. Now what says danger most: Bft 10, 25 m/s or 90 km/h? #ScienceCommunication #SciCom #weather

I like "Professor Dave" on YouTube. He is arguably the most abrasive science communications person I've come across.

I don't know if he's doing any good in general, in terms of making people less credulous and more scientific, but he does go off on creationists and flat earthers, and I just love that.

Basically he gets to say out loud what I'm constantly thinking when faced with science denial.

It's not for everyone.
