The Traffic Apocalypse Has Begun
AI is quietly upending journalism. Google’s latest AI features are reshaping how we find (and don’t find) the news.
Here’s how it’s playing out—and why publishers are sounding the alarm:
Coming Soon to the USA...
Yes, of course Wall St would comply. Why do you ask?

How #AI is eating the Internet…one search at a time - “Similarweb, which measures traffic to more than 100m web domains, estimates that worldwide search traffic (by humans) fell by about 15% in the year to June. Although some categories, such as hobbyists’ sites, are doing fine, others have been hit hard (see chart). Many of the most affected are precisely the kind that might have commonly answered search queries. Science and education sites have lost 10% of their visitors. Reference sites have lost 15%. Health sites have lost 31%. For companies that sell advertising or subscriptions, lost visitors means lost revenue.” Source: The Economist #ArtificialIntelligence #search #SearchEngine #Google #Advertising #DigitalAdvertising #ParadigmShift #internet #tech #technology
Ooooof you search for "network bridge on Linux" on #duckduckgo and it brings up tons of junk or psuedo junk websites in the first page.
Gave up and directly searched the Arch wiki and immediately found what I wanted.
May the #junkweb burn in hell. You need to remember the web like 6-7 years ago to understand why it is so garbage now.
People older than me say it was even better before my youth years.

One good feature #Marginalia has is that it tells you before hand about "anti features" of a website.
Like in the attached screenshot, this website has got Tracking, Javascript and Ads.
It also has features to remove results which have got ads or Javascript. These features come very handy in the "modern" world wide web.
I really appreciate the developer's efforts. I hope #FOSS #SearchEngines could one day excel. And I hope support for languages other than English will be added soon enough.
Here's the thing: https://marginalia-search.com/

this is how Internet dies and disinformation flourishes

Google's AI summaries: So convenient that users click 50% fewer links and just... leave. It's like having a librarian so efficient that nobody bothers reading the actual books anymore. The Pew study shows we're heading toward a one-page internet experience.
So I was trying Kagi because DuckDuckGo is becoming worse and worse.
In DDG the top list of website are questionable sources or irrelevant information. If I look at the news section, it constantly gives me far-rights and Israeli-propaganda outlets for basically any query. And it keeps turning on the AI feature despite me deactivating it every time.
So I'm trying Kagi. The free trial account gives me 100 search. But I notice that search isn't counted as one query
