Hiszpania, Niemcy, Islandia, Finlandia i Argentyna. Jest to niewielki odsetek wszystkich państw, ale znajdują się wśród nich takie rozwiązania, na których można się wzorować.Modelem najbardziej zbliżonym do idealnego jest ten, który funkcjonuje w Argentynie. Od 2012 roku wystarczy złożyć wniosek o zmianę oznaczenia płci do odpowiedniego urzędu. Nie są do tego wymagane żadne dodatkowe dokumenty (medyczne czy psychologiczne), a proces jest całkowicie darmowy. Zgodnie z nowelizacją ustawy z 2021 roku osoby niebinarne mogą zmienić oznaczenie płci w dokumentach na “X”.Osoby nieletnie niezależnie od wieku, by złożyć taki wniosek, potrzebują zgody rodziców lub proces odbywa się za pośrednictwem sądu w przypadku braku zgody. W argentyńskiej ustawie znajduje się również zapis o prawie do poszanowania tożsamości płciowej.Od niedawna, bo od listopada 2024 roku, self ID funkcjonuje również w Niemczech.
