PanormusIn occasione della <a href="https://www.foxyhole.io/tags/giornatadellamemoria" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#giornatadellamemoria</a> a 80 anni dalla liberazione di Auschwitz, gli studenti di diverse scuole palermitane si sono riuniti al Giardino dei Giusti in via Alloro per commemorare le vittime dell’Olocausto. Con canti, poesie e letture, i giovani hanno voluto mantenere viva la memoria di una delle tragedie più grandi dell’umanità, rendendo omaggio anche a coloro che, con coraggio e determinazione, hanno rischiato la propria vita per salvare migliaia di innocenti dall'orrore del nazifascismo. L’iniziativa è stata un’occasione per riflettere sull’importanza della memoria storica e sulla necessità di combattere ogni forma di discriminazione e odio. Durante la cerimonia, è stata ricordata la figura del palermitano Mario Di Stefano, un eroe silenzioso della seconda guerra mondiale. Inviato nel 1939 in Polonia, allora occupata dalla Germania nazista, con il compito di chiudere l’ambasciata italiana di Varsavia, Di Stefano andò ben oltre i suoi doveri diplomatici. In pochi mesi, riuscì a salvare migliaia di ebrei polacchi, concedendo loro visti italiani di transito e biglietti d’imbarco, permettendo così a molte famiglie di lasciare il Paese e mettersi in salvo. Il suo impegno straordinario si colloca in un contesto storico drammatico, segnato dalla promulgazione delle leggi razziali in Italia. Queste leggi, emanate nel 1938, sancirono la discriminazione sistematica degli ebrei, che furono espulsi dalle scuole, cacciati dagli impieghi pubblici, e sollevati dai loro incarichi accademici e professionali. Nonostante ciò, Mario Di Stefano, al servizio del ministero degli Affari esteri dal 1923, non si lasciò piegare dal clima di oppressione e trovò modi ingegnosi per aggirare le restrizioni imposte dal regime fascista. Attraverso l’uso di astuti stratagemmi, tra cui la falsificazione di documenti come visti e carte d’imbarco, Di Stefano riuscì a sottrarre migliaia di vite al tragico destino che li attendeva nei campi di concentramento. La sua storia è un esempio di straordinario coraggio e umanità, un richiamo a non restare indifferenti di fronte alle ingiustizie e a combattere con determinazione per la difesa della dignità e dei diritti umani. Panormus<a href="https://www.foxyhole.io/tags/giornatadellamemoria" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#giornatadellamemoria</a> <a href="https://www.foxyhole.io/tags/27gennaio" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#27gennaio</a> A Palermo, in Via Giuseppina Turrisi Colonna vi è la pietra d'inciampo dedicata a Maria Di Gesù, nata a Monreale (PA) nel 1902. Dopo essersi trasferita a Pola, fu arrestata nel 1944 e deportata nel campo di concentramento di Auschwitz. Successivamente venne spostata nel campo di concentramento di Ravensbrück, nel quale riuscì a sopravvivere abbastanza a lungo da essere liberata. Panormus<a href="https://www.foxyhole.io/tags/giornatadellamemoria" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#giornatadellamemoria</a> <a href="https://www.foxyhole.io/tags/27gennaio" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#27gennaio</a> Ai cantieri navali di Palermo, vi è la pietra d'inciampo dedicata a Liborio Baldanza, nato a Geraci Siculo nel 1899, successivamente trasferito a Palermo con la famiglia dove frequentò le scuole. A 15 anni iniziò a lavorare nei locali dei cantieri navali di Palermo e successivamente si trasferì prima a Milano e poi a Sesto San Giovanni. Antifascista e partigiano, venne arrestato il 14 marzo 1944 e, 3 giorni dopo, fu inviato a Mauthausen e successivamente trasferito a Gusen, Schwechat, Hinterbrühl. Fu ucciso il 3 aprile 1945 durante la "marcia della morte" da Hinterbrühl a Mauthausen. Allein in Auschwitz ermordeten die Nazis 1.000.000 Jüdinnen und Juden, 21.000 Rom*nja und viele tausende weitere Gefangene.1.840 Jüdinnen und Juden aus <a href="https://mastodon.bida.im/tags/OWL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OWL</a> und Schaumburg-Lippe wurden bis 1945 von <a href="https://mastodon.bida.im/tags/Bielefeld" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Bielefeld</a> aus deportiert. Für andere Gruppen wie Sinti*zze und Rom*nja gibt es keine offiziellen Angaben. Neun Deportationen wurden in Bielefeld organisiert, eine davon mit 229 Jüdinnen und Juden direkt nach Auschwitz.
