Latest findings from our #BritishSocialAttitudes survey have been published by Nuffield Trust and The King's Fund.

The latest report, based on data we collected in Autumn 2024, has found that satisfaction with both the NHS and social care has continued to decline. 59% are ‘very’ or ‘quite’ dissatisfied with the NHS, a 7 percentage point rise on the previous year, and 53% of people are ‘very’ or ‘quite’ dissatisfied with social care.

It looks like the employers NI increase may be the final straw for an adult care sector already in crisis.... while the immediate cause of a deepening crisis may be the NI increase, really the clear structural problem is an historic under-funding of adult social care.

So, while Rachel Reeves can be blamed for the next stage of this crisis, really its roots lie with previous Govts. and an unwillingness to fund the system adequately...

Its not looking good!

Anyone who thinks the DWP will limit its (new) powers to directly remove money owed from benefits claimants bank accounts, and apply to have them banned from driving for two years for 'repeatedly' refusing to repay DWP money, to those who are claiming benefits fraudulently, has not been paying attention...

How long before the first un-paid carer is banned from driving making their ability to offer care for a loved one impossible?

I give it weeks....

The Guardian · DWP crackdown could see people banned from driving if welfare debts go unpaidBy Nadeem Badshah

Do we really need another study/inquiry on social care?

After all Scotland & one London Borough have utilised free home care to alleviate aspects of the social care crisis as a practical experiment; might policy makers take advantage of such experience & more quickly re-frame adult care?

Well, of course, the budgetary implications mean its better (once again) to be kicked into the long grass, whatever the personal costs to the vulnerable!
