Solar and wind provide 98% of new US power capacity in record-breaking quarter.

March 2025 marked the 19th consecutive month that solar was the leading new energy source.

Combined, renewables are now 31.5% of total US utility-scale capacity, with projections showing solar will likely surpass coal and wind within two years to become the second-largest source behind fossil gas.

Oh, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission says there's as much as 223GW of solar in the current three-year pipeline. #renewables #solar #climate #environment #ClimateChange #climateemergency #ClimateCrisis

I've been looking at energy production in the PJM region lately. First graph: Solar generation by month / by year. We're still behind other regions in per-capita solar but we had a very nice jump as some projects came online in 2024 and early 2025.

Second graph: Power generation by fuel source over time. The trends are pretty clear: Nuclear has held steady (and we have a decent amount of it); gas has displaced coal. Solar historically hasn't made much of a dent but is starting to show up more in 2024 and will rise in 2025. The caution for 2025 is that energy demand may also be higher due to datacenter growth, so our grid mix may not improve much despite the modest growth in solar, but there's a lot of room for more solar and wind in our mix if we can get it online.

Hey #NewJersey! The NJ Assembly is voting TODAY on A5264, a streamlines the permitting process for new #solar power by removing administrative barriers and lowering costs to help more NJ households adopt solar. #renewableenergy

Easier permitting means more solar power added to the grid — a win for grid stability & fighting #ClimateChange. BONUS: Passing A5264 gives the finger to 47!

Use this Vote Solar form to email & tell your assembly members to vote YES on A5264:

Stellar Energy totally upends energy availability and use. When solar & wind generation are stored in batteries, and the system is oversized enough to bridge the longest no generation periods.

Instead of how do we minimize energy use to how do we maximize use of available energy. It's a total inversion of energy use, and will lead to great increases in health.

#SolarUpdate A quickie before bed... oooer 🤔

3 weeks into May... here's the data

10.5kwh of electric imported (£15.82 inc standing order fees)

264.3kwh of electric exported (£36.95 earned)

£9.53 of gas used (inc standing charges)

Current bill +£11.60 credit

529kwh generated in total (May 2024 was 485kwh, May 2023 was 668kwh)

170kwh used directly,
118kwh sent to the battery
246kwh sent back to the grid

Daily avg 25.2kwh

It's been an exceptional month so far, and whilst rain is forecast for the end of the week, it's scattered showers rather than dark clouds and heavy rain. So solar forecast is still looking reasonable for the next week.

Instead of it predicting 207kwh of generation for the last 7 days, it's predicting 130kwh, with an avg of a 50-60% chance of rain each day from Saturday onwards. Which is still a daily avg of 18.5kwh and would only bring the daily total to the 28th down to 23.5kwh a day.

It would also mean (if it's accurate) that we'd equal, if not beat the previous record of total generation in a single month... Which was also May 2023 (668kwh).

Only 10 days left in the month... will we break records or won't we... Tune in and find out.
