I wish everything was as solid and long-lasting as my #stereo.
It consists of a record player from 1992 (#Technics SL-MK #1210), a CD player and a tape recorder from 1995, and a tuner and an amplifier from 1997 (all by #Yamaha).

They have never faltered or failed me. They just work and sound like they did on day one.

My speakers are from 1976 and, for nostalgic reasons, I have never replaced them – although I guess it would make a difference in this case.

I've been working on the parts list for this phono preamp project. There are 3 boards:

* The preamp itself
* The rumble filter (a high pass filter)
* The power supply

Can't wait to finish it and order everything.

This doesn't include whatever cases I decide to put them all in.

There's an inexpensive build project I've been meaning to work on for some time. It's an RIAA phono stage called the ESP 06. A friend of mine made up some boards and offered me a set, and how could I say no? My stereo preamp has a good photo stage but this will be fun to play with. Now I just have to find where I put the PCB's.

Building a(nother) portable #stereo. I'd like it to sound good. I would love a small subwoofer driver. No, like SMALL.

Thinking 4 inches (~100mm) diameter or smaller. Better if more like 3 inches (~75-80mm). No room or power for a 6-inch subwoofer.

Oh, and also maybe under about $30 USD. I know, picky.

I have a salvaged 2-inch subwoofer that sounds like absolute shit. Hoping to find something better.

I've been scouring the interwebs and haven't found anything like this for under about $50 USD, which is more than I'm willing to pay right now. It's hard searching for this because google, amazon, ebay, etc. all serve up a ton of full-range drivers, midrange, and midbass. I need subwoofers, and have been wading through search results looking for them.

Any suggestions? Even sites that might have them? (note: parts express does not).

If you have suggestions for what I should be doing differently, that's fine, too. Like maybe I should consider a traditional woofer instead of a sub, IDK.

For #makershour today I will be teaching (last day of spring semester classes!) so here is a quick "what fucking thing am I working on this week?"

It is a boom box. Well, a #portable #stereo. Okay, a "portable" stereo. I started by trying to make speaker enclosures with no parallel surfaces inside, and the project kind of ballooned from there.

Current drivers are pretty bad, so that will be upgraded. I also need a battery and some knobs. I'm pleased, overall.

On the day the #Maxell blank #cassettes arrived I tried to see if if the new-to-me #Pioneer CT-300 #cassette player from the #80s still records fine.
It's going to need some work. The seller sadly somewhat "oversold" its working condition. Fortunately it's fairly easy to find replacement belts, I just need to wait a bit.
I like how this photo came out though 😀
