Why do I never read germany pioneering something important in Europe?
It's just controlling borders, destroying Schengen.
To repeat this would be advisable for all other furopean countries.

S3 and Minio storage experts around? Tom @thomas
wrote a blog post (in German) where he wonders why files that are smaller than 4K (1 block) consume 570% more space. According to his calculation the total amount used by these small files is 731MB, on S3 they occupy 4167MB. The path is Mastodon -> Minio -> S3. Could be additional metadata or something, but he is really wondering what is happening.

UPDATE: Seems the problem is identified.

I don't buy a lot of fancy name brand tools, because mostly they're not worth the exaggerated prices, but I have a few.
This Makita hammer drill is fine*, but what they really got right is the box.
Parkside tools come in moulded plastic cases that fit exactly what was in the box and nothing else and only if you put the cable the way it was when you first opened it.
The Makita case allows you to roll the cable aorund the handles as everyone does and still fit in the box, plus compartments for the accessories you will accumulate.
I've found myself cutting away plastic from Parkside boxes to make space for that...
* Apart from the notoriously crappy Makita plastic chuck you see in there, next to a superior, cheaper metal one from China.
I'm confused by the storage consumption of metalhead.club media:
* Mastodon reports: 603 GiB
* Minio reports: 692 GiB
* Filesystem reports: 763 GiB
I mean ... a little difference should be fine - but 160 GiB ?!
Any ideas why?
Edit: I don't have versioning enabled in Minio S3.
When those who are supposedly profiteering the most from #AI #Storage needs are warning about the extreme over-demand for that #bubble, you know shit's going bad.
Happy #Greedflation everyone, enjoy your #AIslop!
