AndThisIsMrsPeacock 🏳‍🌈<p>ME: (being the stereotypical indecisive Libra) I can't decide if I want to actually wire the billiard room for surround sound or just get a sound bar. I wish there were somehow a sound bar that could still do rear channels.</p><p>JBL: Helllloooooooo</p><p><a href="https://www.jbl.com/BAR-800-.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">jbl.com/BAR-800-.html</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/Audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Audio</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/SurroundSound" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SurroundSound</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/HomeTheatre" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeTheatre</span></a></p>
<a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/surroundsound" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>surroundsound</span></a></p>
C.<p>Hoping maybe the <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> hive mind has some ideas about a problem.</p><p>My old workhorse Onkyo AV receiver died a few months back, and I replaced it with a Denon AVR-S970H. And it's driving me nuts.</p><p>My <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/TV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TV</span></a> is old, from the final generation of plasmas. Great picture. Sound is okay, but it only understands stereo and mono in uncompressed or AC-3 formats. Anything else sent to it - different codec, or multichannel/surround - is ignored and you get no sound. But that's okay!</p><p>Most of the things I watch that have stereo sound I just want to listen to through the TV anyways - TV shows, old non-spectacle movies, documentaries, all that sort of stuff. When I have a Big Movie with a <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/surround" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>surround</span></a> soundtrack, that's when I want to listen to it through the fancy speakers and the <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/AVR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AVR</span></a>.</p><p>With my old <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Onkyo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Onkyo</span></a>, this was easy: the receiver always played the sound through itself and also sent it to the TV. If I wanted simple stereo, I'd just mute the receiver. If it was a surround sound thing, the TV just ignored it.</p><p>The <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Denon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Denon</span></a>... doesn't do this. I have to configure whether to output the sound through the TV, or through the AVR. Devin Prater :blind:<p>Okay y'all, I hit the jackpot again! So I have the OnePlus 13 phone, and Earfun wireless earbuds. So I was trying surround sound playback on the AAC Multichannel Playback Test page from Fraunhoffer, and while the OReality audio doesn't use the surround sound channels, the Spatial Audio option does! So yeah, while the OnePlus doesn't have Dolby Atmos, it does support surround sound emulation. Lets see an iPhone do that! :) </p><p><a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audio</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/SpatialAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpatialAudio</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/surroundSound" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>surroundSound</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/OnePlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OnePlus</span></a></p>

Scott McDowell<p>I’m so full of inspiration after an exciting week at Sony’s “Immersive Creator Experience” camp. Here’s a picture of me and artist/producer Neffu working in the 4.1.4 audio room I built for the week. This was my first time really successfully doing music production with different creators while actually monitoring with an immersive audio setup. This year I relied a ton on Fab Filter’s Pro-R2, Sound Particles Density &amp; inDelay, and Eventide’s Blackhole Immersive edition. Plus the quad “double ORTF” setup my pal Will built with Sony’s ECM-100 mics.</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Audio</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/MusicProduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MusicProduction</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SurroundSound" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SurroundSound</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Atmos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Atmos</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Sony360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Sony360</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/AAX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AAX</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/VST" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VST</span></a></p>

Ed 👾🎮💻<p>It’s rare that I ever feel a sense of loss when it comes to my <a href="https://mas.to/tags/UnilateralHearingLoss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UnilateralHearingLoss</span></a>. But as I’m sitting here watching the <a href="https://mas.to/tags/PSVR2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PSVR2</span></a>, realizing what I’m missing out on kinda stings. It feels almost like heartache from missing someone long since gone. </p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/sad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sad</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/3daudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3daudio</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/SurroundSound" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SurroundSound</span></a></p>
Halo<p>Today I learned that my <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/hearing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hearing</span></a> / <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/AuditoryProcessing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AuditoryProcessing</span></a> isn't getting worse - it's that <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/TV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TV</span></a> shows and films are now increasingly likely to mix their <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audio</span></a> for <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/SurroundSound" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SurroundSound</span></a>, where the dialogue track is intended to come out of the speaker close behind you, so they tend to put it really quiet in the mix. Hence why I need to put subtitles on to follow dialogue on shows, but I never used to. Which is... bonkers, because who tf uses surround sound? Aren't we all streaming on our laptops?</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/TIL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TIL</span></a></p>
