#synthesizer

Having watched some demos and reviews of the #Boss / #Roland #SY200 #Guitar #Synthesizer I must really ask the question: Is anybody really using this thing?

Among the many presets I heard, there was not a single one that sounded like something usable to my ears. Example: youtube.com/watch?v=XYua-uo0_q

Is it because all these guitar players don't have a sense for synth sounds? Or is it because this pedal is… crap?

Or is it, because it's Roland's #ZenCore synth engine again, the plasticy digital algorithm collection they stuff into every plastic box they're making today, ranging from keyboard synthesizers over guitar synths to digital wind instruments?

Unfortunately, their last analog #bass-to-MIDI converter, the Roland GI-20, is super rare these days (requires the GK3b special pickup and a 13-pin cable, which are still available).

Would be nice to have one of these, there is no lack of decent synths in this world of mine.

@jazzfm wish there was a video of any of George Duke Davis Clavitar performances. Sure there are some from later keytars he played, but the Clavitar was pretty unique...

Right from the album cover here you can see how you can select with the left hand the LFO shape, enable/disable the LFO for pitch, for filter, sliders for rate and amount.

Had other features, likes 2 octave up, 2 octave down, quantize, portamento, pitch bend etc...

Free #Synth: Six-Sines by Baconpaul

A open-source Yamaha-style TX81Z MPE FM Synthesizer plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows.

#SixSines is a small synthesizer which explores audio rate inter-modulation of signals. Some folks would call it "an FM synth" but it's really a bit more PM/AM, and anyway that's kinda not the point.

The Buchla Concerts 1975 from Suzanne Ciani, a pioneer in Electronic Music.

This is a very experimental stuff from this period. Avant-garde music, we can say. Recorded in 1975, this performance have been released under the Finders Keepers Records Label in 2016: finderskeepersrecords.bandcamp

Setting the clock straight on the history of synths & electronic music.

Something I was very much hoping for turns out to exist… and be unavailable.

Software to allow a modern electronic wind instrument to sound like a Lyricon, their analogue ancestor. And a great price! Alas, the man behind it has apparently been uncommunicative for over a year, and he decided to saddle the programs with a system requiring a unique, personal, computer-specific activation code that nobody else can issue. You can still *buy* the software, you just can't use it or get a refund.

Deeply frustrating, but at least I read about the problem before handing over any money.
