Omg. This story about the British 28yr old comic book artist and backpacker, staying at workaways and living her best life only to be detained at ICE jail when she tried to go to Canada. Guys SHE DREW PICTURES OF HER CELLMATES. 😢 this is a movie script.

theguardian.com/us-news/2025/a

and the unexpected, complicit, villain?

The Canada Border Services Agents!! 😡 😤

Why the hell are we turning these obvious tourists back into the hands of ICE!?

As a Canadian I am embarrassed and infuriated. A directive must be put out to Canadian border guards to show leniency!!

The story about the Canadian woman who ended up in an ICE prison is detailed here. Sounds like having a US Visa is a liability now tourist, or work… and if you have any kind of trouble with it or do anything that might be perceived as troublesome, expect trouble at the border.

The best advice for people in this article: if you need to renew your visa, do it at an airport on Canadian soil so you can’t be sent to a US prison.

“She was told they'd have to send her back to Canada. But as Mooney sat searching for flights home on her phone she says that a man appeared and told her to come with him.
She knew something was way off when they pulled the shoelaces from her sneakers.
"Later I found out that's so you don't hang yourself in jail," said Mooney.”

Jasmine Mooney was detained and held in immigration detention centres after attempting to apply for a visa and enter the U.S. from Mexico. Her lawyer says she's an example of shifts in how the U.S. is handling travellers

I know people who grew up on the US Border in Vancouver in the 60s and 70s. The border was a ditch they could walk or ride across as kids and go to the corner store. Those days ended years ago, but they are almost unthinkable now.

The warnings from Canada on travel to the US are frankly deeply shocking.

“The federal government updated its travel advisory on Friday, warning Canadians of possible detention should one be denied entry to the United States.
“Comply and be forthcoming in all interactions with border authorities,” reads the advisory. “If you are denied entry, you could be detained while awaiting deportation.”
The government also warned that travellers should expect to be heavily questioned and may have their electronic devices searched.

“Individual border agents often have significant discretion in making those determinations,” the advisory reads. “U.S. authorities strictly enforce entry requirements. Expect scrutiny at ports of entry, including of electronic devices.””

All three of the other catastrophic sell offs of the Dow Jones were due to factors brought on by much broader and deeper economic forces over longer periods of time.

This week's collapse is an intentional act. A self inflicted bludgeoning of the American economy.

Why the __ are Americans not rioting in the streets tonight and demanding this President and his administration resign?

bird.makeupMatt McDermottIt appears this is the fourth worst back to back day for the DJIA in American history with a two day combined -8.65% loss, only trailing the 1929 crash, 1987 Black Monday, and the 2008 financial crisis.

I have decided that ridiculing these people is not just an unhelpful response, it enables them to continue and not face serious consequences.

These people might be dumb, but they are not stupid. They are doing it on purpose. They are fascist, authoritarian, ideologues hell bent on destroying our social and democratic institutions.

Be angry!

Just to get an idea of the scale of the disaster this *one* LNG terminal represents:

If built to capacity, this facility will export up to 28 Million Tonnes of LNG per year.

It is expected to produce 0.15 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of LNG. (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LNG_Cana)

That's 4.2 Million tonnes of CO2 per year.

BC's total emissions in 2022 were 65.5 million tonnes.

So this one facility will increase by 6% the total CO2 emissions of the province. Meanwhile, that doesn't count the CO2 of the exported LNG itself when it is used.

I guess the rest of us just have to work harder at reducing emissions so the poor LNG company (Shell et al) can have their profits!

Good people, including many Indigenous people, tried to stop this environmental, climate, disaster from happening.

They failed.

It has been proven in multiple studies that the use of Natural Gas today generally displaces renewables and nuclear, particularly in China and other Asian countries. This will likely be true in Europe as well.

I don't know if #TheAmericanFascist's trade war will make LNG more or less viable, but I know that billions of dollars invested in this disaster could have gone to renewables in BC and given us more leverage in the energy and water war that is coming.

We will regret building this monstrosity.

On the bright side, both US and European oil prices have dropped bigly. Less money for the Fossil Fuel Global Arsonists and also Russia. 👍

A bunch of OPEC+ countries are increasing production at the same time as all this.

Natural Gas is rising probably on expectation that Europe will pivot to it before going to renewables and/or the global recession hits.

I just turned on Fox News (Jesse Watters 5PM) to see what they were saying about #TheAmericanFascist's tariffs and apparently:

1) USA liberated Europe from
Hitler
2) USA liberated Asia from 'the Emperor'
3) USA and countries they liberated beat Communism.
4) USA created Globalization
- then -
All those countries turned their back on USA, took advantage of them, especially China which the USA "basically created".

then I turned it off.

It looks like 338 has corrected its riding level projections a bit (perhaps there has been more focused regional polling?). The Liberal and Green vote share is now a little closer to what we would expect, even in a strong Liberal year, around 15-20%. The Liberals don’t factor here much and still haven’t announced a candidate.

Edit: correction, A Liberal candidate has been nominated: Brian Cameron. Haven’t found any information about him.

The redistribution from the LPC boosts all three other parties.

There is a PPC candidate here. I am surprised it is not on the chart. I would expect them to get 1-5% of the vote here so that is another factor 338 is not currently handling well.
