Watched #TBOSAS (the new #HungerGames movie) and here are my spoiler-free thoughts:

- It was actually a good movie. Way better than I expected based on book reviews. It made a concise point that was well done and much needed.

- Every line written for Flickerman was pure gold. It made him way more disturbing than any of the villains.

- Hunter Schafer is stellar

- The music was pretty good, and Rachel Zegler delivered it

Well consider my mind blown: Ich habe heute in der Vorpremiere den neuen Hunger Games Film "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" gesehen, das Prequel zur ursprünglichen Serie. Und was für ein Prequel! This film contains multitudes!

In dem Film verstecken sich gefühlt 27 geniale Berliner Drehorte, begnadete Schauspielende, ein komplettes Shakespearestück, der Holocaust, und die Frage, warum es kein richtiges Leben im falschen gibt.

Finished The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, overall an interesting read. Not sure if it needed to be 500+ pages to tell its story, but the story itself was gripping enough to keep you reading. At points it felt more grim than the other books in the Hunger Games series, for the same reason that prequels of this sort always feel that way, because you know from the start that there won't be any sort of resolution until the events of the main HG trilogy take place.

Making Snow a clearly problematic person from the start was a wise choice, much preferable than trying to humanize him and justify his future actions as those of someone driven too far by traumatizing events. Snow wasn't shaped into the tyrant he became by outside events, he chose that path based on his own way of thinking and capacity for ruthlessness.
