Today's historic photo of the day: Diesel locomotive N452 heads broad gauge VLine passenger #train no 8332 from Albury to Melbourne into Seymour, Vic, March 14 1987.

Seymour is a railway town about 100km north of Melbourne on Victoria's main North-East line, Goulburn Valley line to Shepparton, Echuca and Tocumwal and the interstate line to Sydney.

Today's historic photo of the day: The Cooma-bound Canberra Monaro Express run by a 7-car DEB set with PF908 leading and PF901 at rear, slows for a safeworking stop at Royalla, NSW, December 7 1985.

In 1985, the Canberra Monaro Express was a 6-days per week day-return #train from Sydney to Cooma via Canberra. It made three passenger stops south of Queanbeyan (Michelago, Bredbo and Cooma), but it also stopped at Royalla to exchange the staff, however by 1985 Royalla was not a passenger stop.

I was babysitting Toby, but that day he started getting anxious around 4 pm.

"What's up?"
He wouldn't answer at first, but finally he said that he'd noticed a ghost in the woods around this time.

"You've actually seen a ghost?" I asked.

"Not seen. Heard." He pulled me out the back door and down to the woods.

"Listen," he whispered. "Hear it?"

I did.

#Train tracks run through the woods. I'd never noticed before how haunted a freight #train whistle sounds.

The pedestrian bridge rumbled under Dad's feet as he held up Ewan to watch the train. "And that's the North Jersey Coast #4352 going from Asbury Park to Penn Station."
"Wow. I like trains. I wanna be a train guy when I'm older." The boy glowed with anticipation and rubbed his hands. "How can I be one?"
Dad knelt, "Well boy, they're going to train you on a train."
Ewan's eyes were wide. "They're gonna make me into a #train?"
Dad changed his answer when he saw Mom's glare. "No."
