My go-to for discussing the harms of tokenism is Davis, E. (2016). Typecasts, tokens, and spokespersons: A case for credibility excess as testimonial injustice. I am an artist and professor of Creative Technologies at Virginia Tech. In my work, I focus on the ways technologies of visualization and control intersect with and threaten #trans lives.

If I was bloody minded enough to start a book project (performance and policing), any thoughts on starting points beyond just writing?

I’m coming from an abandoned PhD with a seed chapter that’s already going in an edited volume I’m not sure

I want to focus on the writing process not publishing goals looking for advice from folks who completed first projects as independent scholars outside grad school
