Been searching for 25mm pins, so it's #treasure time! Cleared out a large industrial sink full of stuff in the garage. Mostly tractor parts, PTO shafts, universal joints, that sort of thing. Some bent, some servicable.

A hydraulic piston with the head broken off.

An adze! In good condition, because it laid in a puddle of leaked out grease. Very happy about that one. Just needs sharpening really.

And some very specific clamp thing. Looks like a walnut cracker perhaps?

Moved most of it to the tractor parts shed, where I opened the cabinet in there for the first time and found Mikhail Gorbachev's suit and shirts 😆

What this lawyer says about #youthCrime is not only ‘factual’ (he ought to know what he is talking about) but he is only telling us what every informed citizen about this highly politicised issue has known for decades (ney, centuries). Youth crime is a #SocialIssue best addressed by socially responsible policies which have nothing to do with #policing or the #Courts and criminal laws.

“"The vast majority of the children I deal with come with some kind of trauma, whether that is familial or family abuse, abuse while they have been in residential care, some kind of cognitive disorder or intellectual disability… developmental delays, some kind of disadvantage, trauma."

The Melbourne lawyer says while community understanding of family violence is growing, it doesn't always publicly appreciate the long-term impacts on children.” (Source: abc.net.au/news/2025-05-31/aus?

If less of our #treasure was systematically transfered to the upper percentile of the moneyed population, there wouldn’t be so many ‘social’ drivers to youth delinquencyand crime.

#poverty and #illiteracy (or lack of education) are Political Choices made by our govt. We can change that. We can make a real difference to the socially disadvantaged portion of our society. But only if we wish to do so -- at the ballot box.

Sure, we’ve all got it tough. But why should we think we’re any better off just looking after our own interest if we leave so many people out of our decision making. We’re just perpetuating the thieving and making it worse over time. If we do nothing to stop the rorting, our great grandchildren will be youth crime statistics no matter how well we’ve done for ourselves. We’re all, basically, very selfish.

Stripped it down, gave it a thorough clean. Battery is good and not pillowed, everything works, you can hook it up to USB in storage mode and load ePub books on. Only some irrelevant scratches on the rear of the case.

There was a whole bunch of "sexy horror" books on it, which I deleted because I don't ever read that. Now it has the Douglas Adams collection instead.

I like this thing. Really good find! Now that I know he doesn't sell broken crap, I want to go back again and look through this guys other e-waste 😁

Checked on the crooked old shack down by the river. Roof still needs patching 😕

Not much in there, a couple tractor wheels, more doors, some glass bricks, a bunch of old lumber and some other crap.

And a P.H. Mayfarth Stiftendrescher (threshing machine).

No idea if it has all the parts, it doesn't have the hand cranks, so probably the version for powering by horse-engine (or later steam engine).

It doesn't appear to be as heavy as I thought, so maybe I can drag it out of there and move it to the tractor barn for now, which is much dryer.

Might be a fun restoration project when I'm done with everything else. Definitely worth saving.

During a family trip to Point Farms Provincial Park north of Goderich, Ont. in 2023, Lucas Atchison was using a metal detector he got for his birthday when he found something big and old.
