Hi Ulan, the post is simply a link to the newspaper page displaying the cartoon published by the NZ Herald newspaper.
If you’re interested in the subject of the #NZPol government threatening the founding document of #Aotearoa #NewZealand #TeTiritiOWaitangi which is a treaty signed by a majority of #Māori rangatira (chiefs) and the British Crown to grant the right of British people to settle in NZ. Some other hashtags you could use to find out more are #TreatyPrinciplesBill #DavidSeymour #AtlasNetwork #Act #ToitūTeTiriti #TePātiMāori #TreatyOfWaitangi #Haka

Excusing the use of AI this short summary of #TeTiritiOWaitangi and its relevance to the recent #Haka performed in parliament by Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, Rawiri Waititi and other MPs.in protest to the dishonorable colonial supremacist #TreatyPrinciplesBill being introduced into #Aotearoa #NewZealand parliament as a government bill, is a very good way of explaining the history of #Māori, tangata whenua (people of the land) and tangata tiriti (people of the treaty) and the failure of this #NZPol government to honour the treaty. #ToituTeTiriti

"#NewZealand MPs who performed #haka in parliament given unprecedented punishment

#TePātiMāori co-leaders and youngest member to be temporarily suspended from #parliament after performance protesting controversial bill"

The bill in question (the #TreatyPrinciplesBill) wanted to reinterpret the #TreatyOfWaitangi (1840), which upholds #Māori rights

The bill was defeated

I think the proper response to a bullshit punishment for protecting #MāoriRights is a lot more hakas

NZ's Parliament has voted down the Treaty Principles Bill. Only the raving gun-nut loony party supported the flawed legislation.

48 votes opposed - National
34 votes opposed - Labour
15 votes opposed - Greens
11 votes in favour - ACT
8 votes opposed - NZ FIrst
6 votes opposed - Te Pāti Māori

Take that, Seymour!

“The Treaty bill is not just about legal wording — it’s about economic power. If Te Tiriti is successfully reframed as symbolic rather than contractual, the Crown will have removed one of the last barriers standing in the way of total economic control.” #NZ #Aotearoa #Indigedon #TreatyPrinciplesBill #Indigenous #Māori #ToitūTeTiriti #TeTiriti

"It's not actually normal to invade countries and say they don't exist. *Unless* you're a colonizing power."

#TimothySnyder, 2022

yalepodcasts.blubrry.net/2022/

Even less normal to sign treaties with countries and say they don't exist. You hear that Rimmer?

Snyder goes on;

"So Europeans constantly invaded countries and said they didn't exist, that's the history of the Americas and Africa, right?"

.. as well as Australia, Aotearoa, and most of the Pacific.

📝 Aotearoa Treaty Principles Bill Submissions

Now, I generally try to keep "politics" out of the recaps because this is meant to be a positive space for the fans - but I do know that A LOT of our cast and crew are affected by this bill personally so I do want to throw this in there.

It looks like you don't actually have to be a resident of Aotearoa to submit your feelings on the bill.

Here is helpful linktree with things you can say and how to submit that I tracked down via a post Rachel House reposted: linktr.ee/nzhumanrights

"Why should I care? [The Regulatory Standards Bill] is the twin to the Treaty Principles Bill. So much so that you can use your submission for that bill as the template to this one. It has been described as: The ‘dangerous’ bill flying under the radar and 'arguably one of the most regressive and dangerous Bills ever considered'."

"The good news is that the Justice Committee has done the right thing, and extended the [Treaty Principles Bill] submission deadline for another five days. So, if you haven't already, Submit!. History is watching, and like the Tour, people in twenty or forty years time will want to know which side you were on. Are you going to do your part, or stay silent in the face of white supremacy?"
