Matija Šuklje<p>My old Mikrotik router just died and I am thinking of braving up and buying a <a href="https://toot.si/tags/Turris" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Turris</span></a> <a href="https://toot.si/tags/Omnia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Omnia</span></a>.</p><p>I would be very thankful if I could get some guidance from someone with experience before taking the (expensive) plunge.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@turris" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>turris</span></a></span> </p><p>P.S. Yes, that is the reason why my blog and other services are offline.</p>
Karl Voit :emacs: :orgmode:<p>Story continues: <a href="https://graz.social/tags/Turris" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Turris</span></a> factory reset (whose button did not work in the UI) followed by 4 hours of finding issues, re-configuring the setup, trying to debug why only some devices aren't getting IPs (still an issue!), finding out why "disable X" in Web UI has no effect, ... until I gave up. 👿</p><p>For the working devices, download bandwidth is still measured in kB/s and not in MB/s. 😩</p><p>Well, from my personal experience, I certainly can't recommend Turris devices. Especially when they cost so much that you get multiple(!) similar routers for the same money. 😔</p><p><a href="https://graz.social/tags/TurrisMOX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TurrisMOX</span></a> <a href="https://graz.social/tags/OpenWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWRT</span></a></p>

(Probably some single connection mode issue.)</p><p>Yeah, internet feeling like in the early 90s. 😜 </p><p>NixOS update for this week now runs over one hour and a half and it will continue to do so for quite some time I guess.</p><p>New <a href="https://graz.social/tags/OpenWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWRT</span></a> router device is now ordered for a fraction of the cost of the Turris.</p><p><a href="https://graz.social/tags/TurrisMOX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TurrisMOX</span></a></p>
Karl Voit :emacs: :orgmode:<p>Always back up all of your important devices!</p><p>A few years ago, I tried to replace my older <a href="https://graz.social/tags/OpenWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWRT</span></a> router with a newer <a href="https://graz.social/tags/Turris" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Turris</span></a> device. So I disabled my reminder to manually back up the router config every few months.</p><p>Unfortunately, the Turris had lots of issues that were so annoying that after some months I switched back to my old router.</p><p>Now this old TP-Link router seems to have died yesterday and my most current router backup is three years old, missing out many important configuration changes. 😩 </p><p>Well, that configuration (changes) are lost for good now. 😢</p>

Turris project<p>Hi <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a>, let's start our journey here with our <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>introduction</span></a>.
