Maggie Maybe<p>I feel like an old person screaming at the clouds, but the banks are getting really weird lately.</p><p>If you follow me I’m sure you’ve seen me rant about <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/Discover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Discover</span></a> card changing what they will allow people to dispute.</p><p><a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> lowered my credit card limit &amp; didn’t tell me. I wouldn’t be sure of it if I didn’t have an old statement to look at because it’s the same old limit from a few years ago, but they did.</p><p>I’m also pretty sure that they used to show the running total under the transaction description and amount, and it’s gone now. This is confusing because I just made a payment, that shows pending, and I can’t tell if the new amount is after the payment or not until after it posts, but I’m pretty sure that was the balance before I made the payment. </p><p>And <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/Wallgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wallgreens</span></a> is a pharmacy not a bank, but I still think it’s shady AF that they took the retail price off the pharmacy print out so I have no idea what my medications cost without insurance until I get my EOB. I like knowing what these medication’s cost. Having this information made me decide that getting 10 mg of sumatriptan is absolutely stupid because six of those cost Medicare $800 when it’s less than $80 for six 5 mg &amp; I can just get two of those instead (even though I pay two copays that way they’re only $4.15 so it’s worth it to not drain <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/medicare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>medicare</span></a> unnecessarily.)</p><p>Am I just an old person <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/screaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>screaming</span></a> at clouds now? </p><p><a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/rant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rant</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/grift" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>grift</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/banking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>banking</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/CapitalismIsAScam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CapitalismIsAScam</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens<p><a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> sent me another copy of the "Account Closure Notification" letter yesterday. That's four days in a row sending me a letter they should have sent just once, four months ago.<br>They still haven't responded to the message I sent them on February 5 asking why they sent me this letter four months late.<br>They also haven't responded to the message I sent them yesterday asking why they'd sent me this same letter three days in a row.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/fail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fail</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>You're not going to believe this… <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> sent me the four-months-late letter _again_ today. That's three days in a row sending me the same letter they should have sent me four months ago.<br>I should mention that after they sent me the letter the first time two days ago, I sent them a letter through their web site asking why. They haven't responded.</p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>lol <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> just sent me another copy of the same letter a day after the last copy they sent me. So now they have sent me two copies of a letter, telling me something I already know, four months later than they should have sent it.</p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>We canceled and replaced one of our <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> credit card numbers back in October because we thought there were fraudulent charges on it (it turned out there weren't, but that's a different story).<br>Yesterday, February 4, 4 months after the number was replaced, USAA sent us a letter through their web site notifying us that the number had been canceled and replaced and what we needed to do about it.<br>Four. Months. Later.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/wtaf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wtaf</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/customerService" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>customerService</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/fail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fail</span></a></p>
Maggie Maybe<p>USAA lowered my auto <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/insurance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>insurance</span></a> premium from last year. They must be Trump loving assholes because they have increased my rate every other year that I’ve had them.</p><p>For the past four years I’ve bounced back-and-forth between USAA and progressive, mostly because progressive gives a really decent new client discount that made it worth it. But I prefer <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> because they will give me replacement coverage and progressive won’t because my car is too old. And I like that USAA has allowed their employees to work from home since long before the pandemic came along.</p><p>I was ready to call them and hassle them about trying to charge me extra so they can pay for $1000 a month gold checkmark on the Nazi platform, I was looking forward to telling them to shove their policy if they want to charge me more. And now they took away my ability to hassle them for being on Twitter. Damn it.</p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>It is absolutely astounding how badly designed the <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> credit card web app is from a <a href="https://federate.social/tags/UXDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UXDesign</span></a> perspective. If you come to this page needing to do something specific, there are at least 15 places on the page you have to look to find the thing you want to do.<br>There is no rhyme or reason or order to them.<br>The thing I do most frequently, downloading my statement, is for some inexplicable reason hidden in small print on the search bar. I need it every month, and every month I struggle to find it.</p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>So now, since I reported the charges as fraudulent to <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a>, USAA is in the process of reversing them all, so <a href="https://federate.social/tags/Amazon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Amazon</span></a> is coming after my daughter to reimburse them for all the reversed charges, and limiting her Amazon account until she does that, which is a huge headache for her.<br>This is, frankly, her fault. I shouldn't hold it against her because she has ADHD and is a college freshman and life is hard, but still… I'm angry about it.<br>(continued)</p>
Marcus Adams<p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> will stop sending certain kinds of alert via SMS. Just got this email.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Security" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Security</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Privacy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CyberSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CyberSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Finance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Finance</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>I had to contact <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> about "Your USAA Financial Readiness Review" email they sent me which said they were going to keep sending them. I have no interest in them, but there was no way in the email to unsubscribe. I tweeted at them asking how.<br>A woman from the "CEO's office" called me back a day later to inform me that there's currently no way to opt out of these useless (for me) emails.<br>I gave her an earful about that, which she commiserated with. Perhaps they will eventually fix it.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/spam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spam</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>Here's a tip for you: If you're a <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> customer and you want to get their attention about something you need help with, tweet at @\USAA_Help on Twitter. If the people who handle that account can't help, you'll get a call in a day or two from someone at USAA's "CEO's Office," a.k.a. the team responsible for handling customer service escalations.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/customerService" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>customerService</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>I get all the way to the end of the dispute process on the <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> site, and on the last page, instead of a confirmation, I get, "Sorry, the system is unavailable right now, try again later." Fuck.<br>So I try again, but it says the charges were already disputed so I can't dispute them again. Except they're not listed on the "View My Disputes" page.<br>I put all this in a letter and upload it through their document portal. That's where things stand now.<br>Why does everything have to be so fucking hard?</p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>Amazon says the charges are on someone else's Amazon account and if we can guess the name they can confirm it.<br>We guess all of our kids' names, just in case. Nope, it's none of those.<br>We tell them the charges are fraudulent. They say all we can do is dispute them with the credit card company.<br>Fine. I log into the <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> web site and use their online process to initiate the dispute.<br>(continued)</p>

Their MBA-driven growthomania killed a 50-year relationship.</p>
Jonathan Kamens<p>I just got an email from <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> with the subject "Introducing Voice ID from USAA". They're rolling out a new feature allowing people to be authenticated via voiceprint analysis when they call.<br>What could possibly go wrong?<br>Oh, yeah, this:<br><a href="https://www.pcmag.com/news/deepfake-software-fools-voice-authentication-with-99-success-rate" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">pcmag.com/news/deepfake-softwa</span><span class="invisible">re-fools-voice-authentication-with-99-success-rate</span></a><br>Fortunately it's opt-in, and I certainly will not be.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/cybersecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cybersecurity</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/ai" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ai</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/deepfake" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deepfake</span></a></p>
Lot⁴⁹<p>Just a reminder that <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a>, which used to be an auto insurance company (a "reciprocal inter-insurance exchange") whose membership was restricted to current and former military officers and looked out for its members' interests, has been hijacked by growth-chasing pirate MBAs. Don't be suckered by all the advertising they now piss away money on.</p>
