Matthew Rimmer<p>'Several major record labels and rights holders have settled their $621 million copyright infringement suit against the Internet Archive over its efforts to digitize, preserve, and share 78 rpm records. </p><p>Attorneys for both sides filed the joint notice of settlement in the California district court on Monday, Sept. 15. It states only that the various plaintiffs — led by Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment — and the Internet Archive “have settled this matter.” Terms of the settlement are still “pending,” and once they’re hashed out, both sides will file a stipulation to dismiss the case. Flipboard News Desk<p>The U.S. Supreme Court has lifted restrictions on roving ICE raids in central California in which masked and heavily armed agents pulled aside people who identify as Latino to interrogate them about their immigration status. Lower courts found that ICE had not established "reasonable suspicion," and ordered the Department of Homeland Security to discontinue the practice if stops were based on a person's apparent ethnicity, language or presence at a particular location. Justice Kavanaugh wrote in his concurrence: “Apparent ethnicity alone cannot furnish reasonable suspicion; under this court’s case law regarding immigration stops, however, it can be a ‘relevant factor’ when considered along with other salient factors." Justices Sotomayor, Kagan and Brown Jackson dissented.
