Michael Porter<p>Today’s <a href="https://ottawa.place/tags/UXFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UXFail</span></a> :<br>I’m ordering cheques for a bank account, online. The default text for the starting number has four digits. You are only allowed to use three. Of course, you don't find this out until *after* you have hit the “Next" button.</p><p>If I am ever in line behind one of these web coders, I'm going to flick their ear, *hard*.</p>
Michael Porter<p>Today’s UI Fail:<br>I’m playing with a glucometer and associated app. If you enter a note, you must click on two different “Done” buttons. If you click the wrong one first, the note isn’t saved.</p><p>The obvious solution to this is to eliminate the button that appears when you are entering text.</p><p>(Another gripe about this part of the app is that you can’t adjust the time on a note, another no-brainer)</p><p><a href="https://ottawa.place/tags/BadUI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BadUI</span></a> <a href="https://ottawa.place/tags/UIFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UIFail</span></a> <a href="https://ottawa.place/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> <a href="https://ottawa.place/tags/UXFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UXFail</span></a></p>
scy<p>Mastodon devs: "You know what would be cool? If you could follow people from the search results list with one click."</p><p>me: "That helpfulness is greatly reduced if I don't even know _who_ to follow." 🙄</p><p>(Also, of course none of these results contain the word "prokop".)</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/UXFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UXFail</span></a></p>

PositivDenken 🤯<p>This Sea-to-Summit packsack to their Ultralight sleeping pad sports some remarkable design fail. On one end, you have access to the rolled up, orange pad, on the other end, it contains a grey pumpsack for super easy inflation. But now, take a guess which end contains what! Exactly, at the grey end you’ll find the pad and at the orange end you’ll find the pumpsack. Now if there just was a way to make it more intuitive!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/uxfail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>uxfail</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/design" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>design</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/productDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>productDesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/designFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>designFail</span></a></p>
mgiraldo<p>i hadn't made the connection that Louie Mantia makes here that since macOS removed scrollbars in browsers (mimicking iOS), users no longer have a visual indication of where they are/how long/how much remains in a web page. websites started adding “reading progress bars” at the top of web pages, maybe to compensate for that. scrollbars were (are) awesome. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/UXFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UXFail</span></a></p><p><a href="https://lmnt.me/blog/rose-gold-tinted-liquid-glasses.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">lmnt.me/blog/rose-gold-tinted-</span><span class="invisible">liquid-glasses.html</span></a></p>
Dr Pen<p>RANT! I have never used Slack. I just didnt need it. Yes Ive ran small tech teams to work on web or app dev, in HE contexts with talented capable students and real clients. Slack wasnt useful. Ive got 3 old workspaces never used. Was it easy to delete them? No. Did it accept fresh passwords? No. Did the email support actually read my email properly? No. Ive now sent a request to nuke everything asap, its my right (GDPR). Stop with this deactivate account bs.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/slack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>slack</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/uxfail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>uxfail</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gdpr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gdpr</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ux</span></a></p>

rich<p>Things That Shouldn't Be a Thing in 2025:</p><p>&lt;rant&gt; Still I find the majority of online retailers list comparison or filter data in its raw (and, badly ordered) format, without running a simple SQL CASE WHEN or using FLOOR for binning. Chad Schultz<p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/UXFail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UXFail</span></a> of the day: BestBuy gave me a slew of options for how to sign in. Peter Drake<p>I'm looking at a student's assignment in Google Classroom. At the top, it is reported as "missing".
