"For example, I think Google [NZ] pays out about 95-97% of all the revenue that it earns [in "service fees" to the parent company] ... and FaceBook would be very similar, Uber would be. The percentages vary, but it's most of it, in all cases."

#Uber has now started doing this insidious thing where they show a longer route to calculate a higher fare, but then use a much shorter route *immediately afterward* for the actual trip. 😠

The app doesn’t let you contest the fare & doesn’t let you connect to a human. 😡

In all this bad news and entropy, here's some good news: WASHINGTON — Yesterday, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Uber Technologies Inc. for discriminating against passengers with disabilities, including those who use service animals and mobility devices such as stowable wheelchairs. Uber is the largest provider of ride-hailing services in the United States. The lawsuit seeks $125 million for individuals who have been subject to discrimination and previously submitted complaints to Uber or the Department.

#DOJ finally files #ADA accomodation case in #SanFrancisco against #Uber that most govt entities have ignored and sat on for well over a decade...

In the complaint, the US Dept. of Justice
claimed that Uber drivers “routinely refuse to serve individuals with disabilities, including individuals who travel with #ServiceAnimals or who use stowable #Wheelchairs."

The complaint also alleged that drivers oft
“insult and demean people with disabilities or ask them inappropriate questions.”

Travis Kalanick debuted so-called #rideshare car & limo service in San Francisco in 2010 claiming it was "revolutionary" idea and unlike regulated #taxis, the #WallStUnicorn has never been in compliance with #disability accomodations since, yet finally gets challenged in 2025 under #Drumpf administration enforcement effort...

Perhaps some #DJT #baksheesh will be forthcoming.to forestall case?

"US sues Uber, alleges discrimination against disabled riders"

reuters.com/sustainability/soc

"… Uber drivers routinely refuse to serve riders with disabilities, including people who travel with service animals or stowable wheelchairs."

"[Uber drivers] illegally charge cleaning fees for service animals, and cancellation fees to riders who are denied service."

The Justice Department is suing Uber for allegedly discriminating against people with disabilities.

It's 2025, and apparently, building an app with AI and advanced algorithms is easier than ensuring basic accessibility and inclusivity. Or perhaps it's just a 'feature' they forgot to implement?

What role should tech companies play in actively building an inclusive world, or does it always take a lawsuit?
